Common (Sixth) Sense is a regular feature devoted to practical uses of intuition.  Making intuition simplistic for everyday mystics.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about reading while impaired called “Intuition Under the Influence.”  It generated a lot of feedback and also prompted some of my readers to ask about medication and intuition.

“What about prescribed medication?  Can that affect your intuition too?”

Yes.  And sometimes for the better.

There is a big difference between taking medication for a condition and abusing drugs.

Drugs can dull your senses.  But, in some conditions, it will actually bring balance and this can help the individual find the right head space to tap into their inner wisdom.

For example, a person who is bipolar would be more centered with their medication.  A grounded and calm mind is much better for accessing intuition.

Another example: a person in physical pain may be unable to be present  for a client due to their condition.  (Trust me, when I wrenched my back in the previous post, I was in NO shape to read for anyone.  Hence, the meds.  But lesson learned – no more oxycontin – stick to Motrin.)

My mother, who was one of the most psychic people I have ever known, was on medication since I was a wee child.  She suffered from panic attacks and depression.  The medication made her life bearable – and it put her mind at ease.  That’s what the mind needs to tap into the sixth sense.  A neutral mind works best. If anxiety is getting in the way, it can impede psychic impressions and lead to projection.

So yes, meds can and do help.

That being said, in some cases, strong meds can impede intuition, but it’s really a case by case situation.  (If anyone prescribed me a heavy drug, I’d be useless in my work.  I’m way too sensitive to medication.  Other people may find it to be a different scenario.)

The bottom line: medication can actually aid your instincts by bringing your body and mind back into balance – but abused or too strong and it can dull the senses.

Blessings!
