quiet world

I crave alone time.

I often find it in the early morning when the rest of the household sleeps and I can sit without distractions.  No ringing phones, no cats, no husbands puttering about.

Just me and a quiet world.

I discover spaces in my thoughts.  Places where there is no planning, no worry, no speculation about what needs to be done, and zero concern with anyone else’s drama.

In that brief moment, I feel peace.

I require this silence more and more.

No talking.

No problem solving.

No need nor being needed.

Nothing or no one to listen to.

That scant bit of nothingness.

Quiet enough to hear the faint whisper of a dream.

So short-lived but so necessary.

Hush.

Where do you find that tranquil spaciousness in your world?

Another amazing young woman is Malala Yousafzai, who is now the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Well deserved.

My friend Debra Smouse turned me on to the adorableness that is “sushi cats.”  Sqeeeee!!!!

And in jaw dropping news, the “Princeton Mom” gives 8 reasons why New York women can’t get a husband.  As if that’s a woman’s only goal.  NOT. (PS I wear a lot of black and it has never gotten in the way of me meeting a man.)

Amal Alamuddin proves the Princeton Mom is way wrong by marrying the world’s most eligible bachelor, George Clooney…at the ripe old age of 36.  LOVE this post.  Yes, there are plenty of men who want an accomplished woman who has her own shit going on.

75 iconic photos that define the 21st century so far.  VERY cool pics.

Chinatown’s kitchen network.  Great story about coming to America and working in the restaurants.

An expensive way to try and keep a pivotal Game of Thrones scene quiet.  Damn, it’s also a spoiler.

My husband is doing a big time purge/clean on our house.  While I WANT that, I’m also freaking out at the process.  It’s messy and this house is in disarray.  But throwing things out feels SO good.

If you are a minor and want to get an abortion but do not want to tell your parents, this is what you’ll go through.  These laws are making it harder and harder for women to do what they feel is right for them.  Would I want  my daughter to tell me if she was making this decision?  Of course.  But back in my day, if I was making that choice, I sure as hell would not have wanted my parents to know diddly squat.  When you look at both sides of the coin, it’s hard to say what is the right thing.

Ten Ways Your Life Would be Better if You Were Karl Lagerfeld’s Cat.  A fashion line based on the color of a cat’s eyes?  YES.

See more of this fancy feline’s exquisite life in Choupette: The Private Life of a High-Flying Fashion Cat.  (Yes, I’m obsessed with Karl and his cat.  So?)

If you are looking to change your diet and feel good again, look no further than Discover Your Nutritional Style: Your Seasonal Plan to a Healthy, Happy and Delicious Life  from Holli Thompson.  This is a sane and helpful book for those of us who like to eat well but don’t want some strict (and sad) diet.
