Typewriter QUESTION MARKS

I’m always up to answering some of your biggest, gnarliest (and most common) questions about tarot.

Today’s question: should I let people touch my tarot cards?

This is a matter of personal preference and it might depend on how you are planning to use the deck.

For example, if this is a deck solely for doing readings for your self, then no one else should touch it.  (My beloved Baroque Bohemian Cats’ Tarot is for my paws only.)

Now, if you are reading for other people, you need to decide what makes YOU comfortable, period.

I have always allowed people to handle my cards and back in the day, I assumed people needed to shuffle the deck themselves in order to put their vibe on it.  But two things changed my mind:

  1. I had an amazing reading from a woman who would not let me handle her deck.  When I inquired why, she said that her connection to the deck was all that she needed to make a connection to me.
  1. I started doing phone readings after one of my clients broke her hip and could no longer get up my stairs.  The readings worked just as well. All we needed to do was tune in without distractions and the connection was made.

So for me, if I read for a client in person, I like to have them touch the cards.  But I no longer believe it’s necessary.

One thing to remember though: if you do allow people to handle your cards, they will get wrecked faster.  I’ve had decks destroyed in one sitting from an aggressive shuffler.  Be sure to use tarot cards printed on sturdy card stock to avoid that.

Always remember, your readings and methods need to come from your heart, not from some arbitrary rule about what is proper and what isn’t.

Blessings!

Theresa
