Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers 3 questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

Of all the questions that people ask a tarot reader, probably love remains the number one topic.  Will I meet the one?  Will he return?  Will I ever find love?  These are typical queries and there is one reader who is determined to not only answer those questions but to bring a holistic, healing vibration to love seekers everywhere: Lisa Frideborg Lloyd.

Lisa has a popular blog, Love Dove Tarot, where she not only addresses relationship issues (her specialty) but also offers services such as “cord cutting” for those who are having trouble breaking free from past loves.  This makes her more than just a reader – she is a healer for the lovelorn.

Originally from Sweden, Lisa now resides in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom with her family.  She first became involved in divination as a youth when she spent summers with her grandparents – her paternal grandmother read coffee grounds and molten lead (how cool is that?).  Lisa also had an out of body experience at age six that massively impacted her world view and lead to her calling as a healer.

In addition to tarot, she is also an accomplished dancer, writer, and Angel Healer.

1.  What is your philosophy about tarot reading?

It’s pretty simple and can be summed up neatly with the help of my Sun, Moon and Rising Sign:

With my Sun in Capricorn, Tarot readings have to be useful and practical. My mutable Pisces Moon and Gemini Rising keep me from getting locked into one system of working with the cards and allows me to cherry pick the most useful ways of working, allowing me to adapt my style to meet the unique needs of each client.

While I believe that life is mostly what you make of it, i.e. “What you think today, you will live tomorrow,” I also know from experience that certain events are set in stone. One such important event could for example be a soul mate crossing your path. I’m a great believer in the cards being able to foretell such events as I have seen it happen over and over again.

The best readings are the ones that resonate so deeply with the client’s own intuition that client feedback is along the lines of ‘Deep down I knew this to be true but it’s nice to have it confirmed.’ The cards act as both mirrors and sign posts. If they fail to reflect the client’s current situation, sign posts for future events can’t be trusted

2.  How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?

I believe that the Tarot can be used to answer any question but I encourage my clients to formulate questions that help move them in the direction of their goals and desires rather than taking a passive and fatalistic stance. Sometimes, what the client needs more than anything is to feel listened to. It’s my job to know when that is the case. My training in person-centered counseling certainly comes in handy at times like that.

3.  What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring tarot reader?

Realize that the learning never ends. You may not suck now but you will still suck a lot less ten years from now. Father time is kind to Tarot readers. Find a mentor, someone you trust and who has lots of years of experience under their belt. Study all of the occult sciences and as many of the Mantic Arts as you fancy. I also recommend learning basic counseling skills. Every bit of learning helps.

Be kind to yourself when you stumble. Be humble and don’t take yourself too seriously. People may not remember all that you say during a reading but they will remember how you say it and most importantly, how it makes them feel. Always end a reading on a high. One simple way of doing this is to have the client pull an Angel or other Oracle card with an uplifting message.

The most important knowledge you can impart to your clients is the truth of the words of Julian of Norwich who said:  “All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”
