this glow powered by love

I like the skin that I’m in and I’ve been blessed with mighty fine skin.  I get compliments all the time on my glowy porcelain complexion.  In fact, whenever I go to one of those beauty counters, the makeup artists are often surprised to find out how old I am (not bragging, it’s just the facts, jack).

The only thing that gives it away is my gray hair, which I am refusing to dye because it makes me feel oddly rebellious.  Plus, I’m kinda down with gray pride.

The big 5-0 is approaching in less than two years and I am feeling okay about it.

I’m feeling good because I have a great relationship with my husband (aka my best friend).

I’m happy because my children are doing well and we are as tight as can be.

I’m thrilled that my health is robust.

I’m proud of the hard work I put into my long career (I feel I’m just hitting my stride!).

I am content to know that my house will be paid off early (just a few years away).

I count myself lucky to live in a fab old crib in a hood that I enjoy.

I am blessed with some real friends and close peers (you know who you are – thank you for having my back).

I am grateful that my sister and I have patched things up.

I feel joyous when I see my baristas every day (and beyond humbled that I am able to do that).

I have daily laughter from my two obnoxious cats.

I have nothing but immense gratitude to the clients who show up in my world every day (you guys inspire me).

As I look around me, I see that I’ve created a fantastic life because it’s based on love and gratitude.

So that glowy skin?  It’s not the skin care (although I am a fanatic for good skin habits).  It’s love, baby.  LOVE.

 coldoutside

Bundled up on a cold Wisconsin day.  It’s snowing outside now as I type this.

Other stuff:

I love this quote by Coco Chanel:  “Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty.”  Wise words from a classy lady.

Let’s talk about skin care for a second.  I get asked about what products I use all the time.  I’m a big fan of Paula’s Choice Resist Line. I use the cleanser, moisturizer, BHA lotion 1% (this will tame your zits and exfoliate better than anything else on the market – it’s a miracle potion!), and the serum.  I play around with some of the other products but these are my staples.

I have never had a tan in my life.  Not kidding.  My skin burns and stays pink so I stay the heck out of the sun.  And I use Eucerin Daily Protection Moisturizing Face Lotion, SPF 30, 4-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2) every single day.  It’s not expensive and it’s made with Titanium Dioxide, which is easy on sensitive skin (I am allergic to the other sunscreens).   I’m also slavish to body lotion but I have no particular favorite.

I use Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation, Classic Ivory 810  foundation but because my skin is good, I only need a few drops to cover a little redness and my dark circles (I inherited those from Dad so no skin care regimen will cure that!).

Nothing makes me feel better than a good meal.  I’m heading out to Odd Duck tonight with Victoria Prozan and Alison Monday.  Let me tell you about these two badasses.  You need to get to know ‘em. Seriously.  Here’s why:

Victoria is a branding expert and major force to be reckoned with.  She’s also the brains behind my favorite program of 2013, Creative Ambrosia.  Each week, she sends a carefully curated movie, story, or other media pick that is guaranteed to flex your creative muscles and inspire your business.  I’ve been thrilled with every selection so far.  In fact, some of these movies are things I have not heard of or probably would not watch on my own without a gentle prod.  If you are looking to up your business creative mojo, you’ll want to jump on this with quickness.  (And I’m not kidding when I say it’s my favorite program of 2013.  I take A LOT of classes, etc. but this one really gets my brain juiced!)

Alison is my local tech shero!  She’s a mad genius for web security and techy stuff (all the jazz I don’t want to eff around with).  She’s also the mighty fine gal who put together the sales page for my Soulful Proprietor Retreat.  Yeah, please give her a hand (I may be building a shrine to her).

Speaking of my retreat – it’s 40% sold out already!  Woo hoo!  If you want to join twenty other fabulous heart centered female entrepreneurs and learn how to take your business from ho-hum to hot-damn, you’ll want to get your spot before they are all gone.  This retreat is very special to me and I’m putting my all into making it the best business retreat ever!  Which is why I have fantastic speakers (Kristie Zahn, Bri Saussy and Alexandra Franzen!), a great location (an allegedly haunted former seminary/school) and a killer swag bag.  (Did I mention that your lodging and food are included?  Not kidding.  There are no hidden fees, no extra costs.  And at the price we are charging, it’s a steal.) Our current list of attendees run the gamut from tarot readers to herbalists to chiropractors!  Come and hang with your liked minded soul sisters and let’s get your soul powered business fired up at The Soulful Proprietor Retreat!

Here’s an interesting story from Food Babe: Do You Really Know What’s In Your Tea?  Pretty scary, eh?  Luckily for us Wisconsinites, we have Rishi Tea based right in our hood (which if you notice on that little chart, they have no icky pesticides, etc in their teas).  White Peony is my staple tea and I am constantly chugging that good stuff all day long.

Need some Christmas cheer?  How about 91 year old actor, Christopher Lee singing some heavy metal Christmas songs?

I hate getting my picture taken but Rock and Roll Bride has some fab tips on how to nail your About Me photo that may help me to get over my camera fear.

Adorable cats with interesting markings – what’s not to love?  Come on now!

I’m always obsessed with the old groupie magazine from the 70’s, Star.  Why aren’t there mags like that any more?  You can’t learn how to be a proper hussy from Seventeen.

Breaking Bad…..how I miss you: 23 Times Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul Blessed the World in 2013.

The Three Notebooks Every Writer Should Keep: yep, got ’em.  (PS I am a sucker for journals and notebooks.  Now that Paper Source is FINALLY in my hood, it’s on!)

And if you think dogs are tough, they ain’t got nothing on cats.  Watch these wimpy dogs fidget and squirm when a cat is in their path.  (The boxer made me laugh so hard!)

In case you missed it: I am chatting all about divination ‘n more with Pace Smith at the Spiritual Entrepreneur Podcast.  I had a blast with Pace!

What I’m Grateful For:

Everything.  Seriously.  It’s all good.

Soundtrack for 12/14/13: Wild For The Night by A$AP Rocky – dedicated to my gals, Victoria Prozan and Alison Monday!  A-yo!  (Mother Nature BETTER NOT mess with our plans tonight!)

Stay warm and ball hard this week, playas!

PS the picture of the skin at the top is indeed my skin – shot up close under a strange light but no airbrushing!
