Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers 3 questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

It’s always nice to connect with peers who have been at their tarot grind for a long time.  Before the internet, it was difficult to find other readers, which made the work rather isolating and lonely.  But that’s all changed and we can now meet virtually through social media, websites, and blogs.

I first learned about Christiana Gaudet through her blog, Tarot Trends.  Her smart, frank writing got my attention immediately.  With thoughtful posts such as “I am your Grandmother’s Tarot Reader” and “The Modern Face of Tarot: Predictions, Healing and Divination“, it is no wonder that it is one of my “must read” blogs.  Christiana is not afraid to speak her mind and I respect her work immensely.

Like me, she’s been working full time in the “tarot trenches” since the 90’s.   From her home near Tampa, Florida she offers readings and mentoring by Skype and telephone, as well as tarot webinars and classes.

In addition to reading and teaching, Christiana is the author of two books:  “Fortune Stellar: What Every Professional Tarot Reader Needs to Know” and  “Tarot Tour Guide: Tarot, the Four Elements and Your Spiritual Journey”.  She also hosts a weekly webcast, called “Christiana’s Psychic Café, “and in 2013 began a YouTube channel that showcases her short videos about tarot.  She has a bunch of great new projects coming up this year, including another “very personal” tarot book and new classes.  If you want to find out when they become available, hop on over to her website and get on her mailing list.

Christiana says on her site:  “When I was a child, the thing I feared most was a boring life.  Tarot has made sure boredom is never a possibility.”  I’d like to say that Christiana is making sure that tarot is never boring.

1.  What is your philosophy about tarot reading?

Christiana:  I believe tarot is a tool for communication on a number of levels. Tarot can help us communicate with each other. Tarot helps us communicate with Spirit in all its forms. Tarot helps us communicate with our higher consciousness, our “higher self.”

Tarot is also a psychic tool. Tarot amplifies our natural intuitive and psychic abilities.
When we sit down in sacred space to perform a tarot reading we are able to discover what is most important at this time – what the Universe wants us to know. We are able to find understanding and healing from the past. We are able to make proactive decisions about life because tarot shows us the whole picture. We are able to plan for the future based on our own goals and aspirations.

So, in short, I believe that tarot helps us to have conversations with our guides and guardians, and our higher selves.

2.  How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?

Christiana:  Surrender to the process. Have questions but don’t have an agenda. Understand that during the time we are together you are my top priority. I am here to help and to heal. I will not try to swindle you, control you or appease you.  Don’t be afraid, don’t guess what’s going to happen next, and be completely honest. Everything we talk about is strictly confidential, and there is nothing that you can say, or that I might see in the cards, that would shock me. Be open to looking at things in a new way. Allow this experience to facilitate your healing.

3.  What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring tarot reader?

Christiana:  I actually have three.

Develop your own reading style. Discover who you are as a reader. There are many readers out there, but only one you. Learn how the cards speak to you, and explore your psychic gifts. Your tarot business is as unique as you are.

Stay grounded when people tell you how right you are all the time. Don’t make it be about what you knew, what you saw or what you predicted. The tarot business, and the psychic business in general, can be a real trap for the ego. Take pride in doing a good job, but neither become cocky nor a know-it-all. Confidence is good, thinking you are special because you have skills will render your skills unusable.

Don’t be superstitious about the cards. Yes, what you can do with them is miraculous. But they are still simply the tools of your trade. Be spiritual, but don’t be superstitious. Be serious about your work, but don’t take yourself too seriously.
