Astrology Bytes Episode 120 - Rising Sign Overlay Patterns

Bite-sized astrology lessons for total astrology newbies.
Created by Theresa Reed, The Tarot Lady (psst…I am known for tarot but I’m also an astrology geek!).

Welcome to Astrology Bytes, the astrology podcast for people who want to learn astrology… but don’t have all day! Short, bite-sized astrology lessons.

Episode 121 – Rising Sign Overlay Patterns

A rising sign overlay pattern refers to the signs on the house cusps when a particular sign is rising. For example, if you have Scorpio Rising, Scorpio is on the first house cusp. The other signs would move around the chart in sequential order. This means if your rising is Scorpio, you most likely have Sagittarius on the 2nd house cusp.

The signs on the cusps of the houses give a clue as to how you handle the issues associated with that sector in your chart. Using the Scorpio Rising example, Sagittarius on the 2nd house cusp would mean you’re fairly lucky with money and may like to invest in education and travel.

When using the Placidus house system, the houses may not be equal, which means that sometimes the next sign does not land on the cusp of a house – but instead may be intercepted, something I’ve talked about in a previous episode. If you use the Placidus system as I do, you’ll see that this modifies the way the ascendant typically acts. For example, I have a Libra Rising. Scorpio is on the cusp of my 2nd house, Sagittarius on the 3rd, and Aquarius on the 4th. Capricorn does not sit on a cusp – instead, it is tucked into the 3rd house. This changes my I.C. and Midheaven to Fixed signs instead of Cardinal. Aquarius on the 4th house shows great independence from the family and an eclectic household while the Leo Midheaven creates a dramatic, creative flair to the way I present myself in my work. Listen in as I compare my chart with my son, who is also Libra Ascendant – but different.
