Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers three questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

Talkin' Tarot with Mary Ellen Pride

If you live in the Milwaukee area and are looking for a great psychic, chances are Mary Ellen Pride is the first name you’ll hear. That’s not a surprise to me – she’s been on the scene longer than anyone I know. In fact, she’s been doing this work for about ten years before I started my career and I’ve been at this gig for thirty!

I met Mary Ellen in my early days. She was a welcoming face at a time when I was still getting my feet wet. Her warmth and humor won me over immediately (psst…she’s hilarious!). We’ve been colleagues and friends ever since.

Over the years, we’ve worked together at various events and she’s always my favorite referral. Why? It’s because I know she’s reliable, talented, and compassionate. Plus you can’t beat her level of experience.

In my opinion, Mary Ellen Pride is the Grand Dame Of Tarot in these parts. But she’s not limited to tarot – she’s also an adept astrologer (my most-trusted local astrologer), medium, palmist, and psychic. You can find her reading at various fairs, corporate events, or in her lovely office on the East Side. If you’re in the area, come and see her. Prepare to get wowed!

 Bio:

In Mary Ellen’s words: “I acquired my first deck of tarot as a teenager in 1970 when tarot decks were hard to find. It was the Marseille Tarot. I was already reading using a deck of playing cards. Palmistry was my first pursuit. Reading fellow students palms during lunch hour paid better than babysitting.

Overall, I have been reading for over 50 years. In addition to tarot, I am an astrologer and medium. Interviews with me have appeared in Milwaukee Magazine, Shepherd Express, Milwaukee Journal, M magazine, and various other publications as well as many radio and television appearances. Though located in Milwaukee, I have clients nationwide and internationally.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?
Mary Ellen:  The pictures of tarot act as a conduit between the reader and the paths of potential. A card has a core meaning which can take a different aspect depending on the current and their situation. For example, Three of Swords can mean emotional heartbreak. It can also, especially for an older person, warn of cardiovascular issues. Let the card talk to you and listen to what it has to say.
Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?
Mary Ellen:  Clients are free to take notes or record the session. I encourage recording as your perspective on the reading will change over time as events develop.
Write your concerns down ahead of time.
Listen. Interrupting too often interferes with the information I am receiving and pertinent information may be lost.
Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring Tarot reader?
Mary Ellen: There are excellent tarot resources on the market. Find a deck that speaks to you. Be patient. Tarot is an ever-evolving source of knowledge. Keeping notes on your readings and their results will help you learn the messages the cards are providing.
