Tarot Advice - Guidance in Every Card: The Hierophant

This week: The Hierophant

When the Hierophant comes up on an advice position, it can symbolize an orthodox approach is needed at this time. Follow the structures and rules already in place.  Make choices that favor the status quo.  This is not the time to take a risk – instead, a conservative route might be the best.

The Hierophant can also indicate wise counsel – bring your issues to a trusted advisor.  A spiritual leader, therapist, teacher, mentor, counselor or other authority figure may be able to help you find the solution to your issue.  (In relationships, I ALWAYS interpret this as seeking couples counseling.)

On the other hand, this could indicate that you need to step into a leadership role. Perhaps you may be called to counsel or teach others. Assume that position and share your wisdom.

If you are asking about a specific decision, this card can advise to check in with your moral compass – let your spiritual beliefs guide you to making the right decision. Follow your conscience and take the higher road.

The Hierophant also favors STRUCTURE.  Seek a solid foundation – whether that be a foundation of knowledge and skill or a structure such as a “regular job.”

The Hierophant reversed:

The reversed Hierophant favors the unorthodox approach.  Now is the time to upset the status quo – to go against the grain.  Seek liberation and don’t let the rules intimidate you.  Remember: some rules are meant to be broken. Fight the man!

This is the card of non-conformity – do not follow the leader or the sheep.  Let your own code of ethics dictate your next move.

The Hierophant reversed says to challenge all beliefs and question every rule.  Be true to yourself!  Create your own traditions!

This card also favors freedom.  Which means keeping options open.  Do not commit to something or someone if you don’t believe in it.  A loose structure may be better at this time.

Questions to ponder:

What do the current rules mean to you? Which ones are important – and which ones might you consider abandoning?  What does tradition mean to you?  How might a structure support you at this time?

Blessings,

Theresa
