In this lesson, we’ll look at the Saturn in the houses in the natal chart.

In this lesson, we’ll look at Uranus in the houses of the natal chart.

Last month, we looked at Saturn in the houses. This month, it’s time to talk about freedom-loving Uranus.

Star School Lesson 30: Uranus in the Houses

Uranus is astrology’s rebel planet. Wherever this planets lands in your natal chart will indicate where you’re innovative, rebellious, and like freedom. The placement will also show where you may expect upheavals and changes. One thing’s for sure: the house is not boring when Uranus takes up space there.

Uranus in the 1st house:  Uranus in the 1st house peeps have their own style. They are not interested in conforming to whatever anyone else is doing. Instead, they may dress in an offbeat way or may add unique touches to their wardrobe that allows them to stand out as an individual. They speak their mind and can be quite obstinate, especially if Uranus is afflicted. God help the poor fool who doesn’t agree with them then – they have a special skill for making you feel stupid. These non-conformists are often viewed as eccentrics. Because they abhor routine and convention, they are also prone to make life changes on a whim. Famous people with this placement: Johnny Depp, Keanu Reeves, Kurt Cobain, Jared Leto, Kesha.

Uranus in the 2nd house: When Uranus sits in the 2nd house, money comes and goes in unusual ways – or finances may be unsettled in some way. It may be that the individual is unable to manage their money or they may be prone to recklessness.  Get rich quick schemes? AVOID if you have this placement! In a well-aspected chart, Uranus in the 2nd can indicate people who earn money through technology, science, inventions, or humanitarian work. If afflicted, it can produce a sponge who leaches off their friends and rarely pays their debts. This can lead to loss of friendships because really…who wants to live You, Me, and Dupree? Famous people with this placement: Justin Bieber, Uma Thurman, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron, Marilyn Manson.

Uranus in the 3rd house: This placement of Uranus produces an intelligent, intuitive mind.  Folks with Uranus here are freethinking individuals and rarely do they follow conventional thoughts. Which means: groupthink isn’t their thing. You’ll find few lemmings with this placement. They are idea machines – many inventors have this placement. This is also an excellent position for astrologers or people who work with the media. Mental stimulation is vital because when bored, they become restless. That never leads to a good outcome for these mentally agile folks.  In an afflicted chart, they may be unstable and prone to flightiness. Or they may like to pick fights. Hare-brained ideas are also common when Uranus is poorly aspected in the 3rd house. Famous people with this placement: Albert Einstein, Marlon Brando, Mark Zuckerberg, Heidi Klum, Kendrick Lamar.

Uranus in the 4th house: The family or home life tends to be unique for people with this placement. The early household might be weird (think: Addams Family) or one of the parents may be offbeat or exceptional in some way (usually the mother). The household tends to be unconventional – for example, the decor could be avant-garde or the home may be filled with tons of new-fangled gadgets. Friends become family and family becomes friends. Sometimes this placement can indicate a person who experiences many disruptions in their early home life (ex: parents move frequently). Or maybe they want freedom from their next-of-kin so they leave the home early.  In an afflicted chart, Uranus in the 4th indicates an individual who may not get along with their relatives. This can lead to long periods of estrangement. Famous people with this placement: Angelina Jolie, David Bowie, Elizabeth Taylor, Alanis Morissette.

Uranus in the 5th house: Romance may begin and end suddenly for Uranus in the 5th house peeps. Partners may come and go – or relationships may come through friendships. (Friends with benefits? Maybe.) There may be something unusual about the relationship – perhaps the partner might be considered eccentric or the relationship may be unconventional in another way (ex: polyamory). One thing is for sure: they need a bit of freedom in love. If they choose to have children, the kids may be super-smart. Little prodigies who march to their own beat. Parents with this placement may give their children free reign and the household may lack rules and order. For those who choose the artistic path, this position of Uranus can indicate brilliance, especially in the fields of performing arts. An afflicted Uranus in the 5th can suggest neglectful parents or persons who have trouble staying faithful to one partner. It can also indicate unexpected pregnancy – so if you have this placement, be careful! Famous people with this placement: Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Halle Berry, Charlie Sheen, Gordon Ramsay.

Uranus in the 6th house: This is a fantastic placement for scientists, health care providers, or those who work in technology. These paths are natural routes for these individuals. That being said, they are often attracted to newfangled or unconventional versions of these professions. For example, they may choose homeopathy instead of traditional medicine. Working conditions are important to these peeps – they will move on if the environment isn’t to their liking. When this position of Uranus is afflicted, there can be trouble with coworkers or instability with the career. This could lead to endless changes in profession. That person who goes from job to job and is never satisfied? Yep. Sometimes this can indicate trouble with the health, often related to stress. Folks with this placement need to find healthy outlets for their pent-up nervous tension. Famous people with this placement: Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston.

Uranus in the 7th house: When Uranus is placed in the 7th house, it creates a need for freedom in relationships. Which can mean: these folks are not the most reliable partner. This is often referred to as the “divorce placement.” While Uranus in the 7th individuals may want space, that doesn’t mean they can’t settle down. They simply need plenty o’ room to breathe. This placement can indicate relationships that begin and end suddenly, without warning. Or the partner may be unusual or exceptionally brilliant. If Uranus is afflicted in this house, it can indicate trouble with lawsuits or public relations. For some reason, the public will often judge them harshly, sometimes turning on them for no sensical reason. Famous people with this placement: Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Carl Jung, Gwyneth Paltrow, J.K. Rowling.

Uranus in the 8th house: This is what I call the “kinky sex” placement. Uranus in the 8th individuals may have unusual sexual predilections and unconventional choices in partners. They don’t want vanilla – they want to experiment. If you’re with one of these sexually adventurous humans, be ready to go where you’ve never gone before!  This is also an indicator of interest in the occult and strong intuitive faculties. They can see things – and don’t understand why you can’t too. If they get a gut feeling, they should go with it, always. Money may come and go suddenly – sometime through taxes, inheritances, or marriage. Depending on how Uranus is aspected, this could be for good or ill. Some texts say that this placement indicates death that comes out of the blue – for example, an accident. Famous people with this placement: Marilyn Monroe, Hillary Clinton, Lana Del Rey, Orlando Bloom, Ellen DeGeneres.

Uranus in the 9th house: Uranus in the 9th folks love to see the world and may travel suddenly. Their wanderlust is strong – they need adventure. Meeting new people, exploring parts unknown, and connecting with different cultures is their thing. Even if they cannot travel, they will be curious about how the other half lives. They may be avid readers of newspapers, travel magazines, and philosophy.  They are also open to new ideas and philosophies, such as the occult or new age. However, if afflicted, they can subscribe to weird thinking or strange religious/political beliefs. In extreme cases, they can be fanatics! If you have a conspiracy theory loving uncle, check to see if they have Uranus here. They probably do! Famous people with this placement: Brad Pitt, Rihanna, Vladimir Putin, Prince, Andy Warhol.

Uranus in the 10th house: This placement indicates an eccentric public image. Individuals with Uranus in the 10th may flaunt convention, preferring to do things in their own unique way. They are stubborn to the extreme and refuse to be boxed in. Often, they clash with authority figures because they want to be the authority. Their identity is important to them – they do not want to be like anyone else. Which means they may have an offbeat style or a peculiar way of communicating with the public. In some cases, they may be rabble-rousers who like to stir the pot with unpredictable antics. They may also choose unorthodox careers. In some cases, when Uranus is afflicted, it can indicate a sudden rise to prominence followed by a swift fall from grace. In those cases, the fall is not only quick but shocking in some way. Famous people with this placement: Donald Trump, Tom Cruise, Eminem, Freddie Mercury, Nicki Minaj.

Uranus in the 11th house: Uranus rules the 11th house so it’s happy here. People with this placement are great, loyal friends and will have a wide social circle, with pals from every walk of life. They are not snobby – if you are cool, you’re in! That being said, they like freedom in those friendships, which means they don’t like to feel tied down to one particular person or group. Instead, they want to flit about and do their own thing. They enjoy being in groups but they are lone wolfs at heart. They run with the pack from time to time but always keep their own identity separate. They are humanitarians at heart and can often be found in groups where they work on behalf of others. This placement indicates a tolerant, open mind and an unwillingness to conform to groupthink. When afflicted, this placement can indicate betrayal from friends – the individual will need to watch out for “frenemies.”Famous people with this placement: Steve Jobs, Prince Harry, Prince William, Vincent Van Gogh, Courtney Love, Pink.

Uranus in the 12th house: People with this placement of Uranus possess a deep interest in exploring the unconscious. The occult, meditation, or mysticism may be of great interest. If it’s groovy and deep – they want in! They can become involved in spiritual organizations or spend time in ashrams and the like. They may be drawn to humanitarian work or doing something that might be good for the world. You can find these sensitive, original folks working behind the scenes at hospitals, institutions, charitable organizations, non-profits, and government agencies. At heart, they believe that there is good in everyone and that everyone deserves a chance. They’re out to find the good in the world or to make it a better place. There is potential for clairvoyance but if Uranus is afflicted, this may produce a person with delusions about their psychic ability. (I once met someone who was convinced they were a great medium with this placement and proceeded to tell me all about my dead relatives…except they were dead wrong. When I told them so, they asked me if “I was sure.” That’s how deluded they were!) This can also indicate someone who has neurotic tendencies and may need time away from the public from time to time. Famous people with this placement: Taylor Swift, Madonna, Adolf Hitler, Paris Hilton, Charles Manson.

Let’s look at our friend Kim Kardashian’s chart. Where does she need freedom?

Homework! Grab your chart and find where Uranus is hanging out. Where are you rebelling?

Next month, we’re going to cover Neptune through the houses. This will show where you’re expressing your mystical side.

But until then…

Keep gazing at the stars – and stay curious,

Theresa
