Stars Crossed - How to Get Along with Pisces

The Stars Crossed series focuses on astrological compatibility. While it’s way more complicated than just your Sun sign, we’re starting with the Sun because it is an important part of your astrology profile—after all, it’s your core personality.

This month, we’re looking at Pisces. Keep in mind this will be general information. As we progress in this series, we’ll examine many other details so you can get the complete picture of the Pisces in your life (or yourself).

What to know about Pisces:

Element: Water
Quality: Mutable
Symbol: The Fish
Ruling Planet: Jupiter and Neptune
Key Phrase: I believe.
Traits: compassion, creativity, intuition, sensitivity

Pisces might be the most sensitive sign of the zodiac. They tend to live in their feelings, and may wear their big, bleeding hearts right on their sleeves. Therefore, you’ll want to be extra kind to these soft souls. If you’re careless with their feelings, the risk of hurting them is too great. And why would you want to? After all, they are loving, compassionate, and giving – qualities that make them fantastic partners.

They’re mutable signs, so they tend to go with the flow. Change doesn’t bother them. Like their symbol, the fish, they know how to operate in all conditions. This adaptability means they’re easygoing. However, it can also lead to indecisiveness or a tendency to be rudderless, going through life without direction. They need to find an anchor. Sometimes that anchor will be the other people in their lives.

This can lead to dependency, one of Pisces’s shadow sides. Pisces love to merge deeply with their loved ones but can become enmeshed. When that happens, they lose their sense of self. Learning how to stand on their own two fins will minimize this tendency.

Boundaries are also part of this dependency issue, especially if they were not taught how to say no early on. This could lead to problems with assertiveness, and in worse cases, they can become doormats.

Pisces also has escapist tendencies. This can manifest in a few ways. One, they can easily get lost in a world of fantasy. If that’s the case, you’ll need to pull them down to earth. Two, they could turn to drugs, alcohol, or video games if they can’t face their problems. In extreme cases, they can be abusive to their loved ones rather than take responsibility for their own failures. In these cases, professional help might be necessary. Lastly, some Pisces can be delusional. The ex who is convinced you’ll still come back thirty years later…that.

Despite those negatives, Pisces folks have a spiritual quality about them. They are dreamers and have a way of inspiring others to see the world through rose-colored sunglasses. These mystical, musical, artists know how to weave beauty into the mundane. If you have one of these free-spirited gentlefolk in your world, you’ll know that everything they do is magic.

Romancing a Pisces: Pisces are hopeless romantics, so do not skimp on courtship, even after you’ve snagged their hearts. Thoughtful gifts, active listening, poetry by candlelight, hugs, and plenty of wining and dining are always good bets for these sensitive lovers. They are water signs, so you might want to incorporate the water element in your date nights: walks by the ocean, long soaks in the hot tub, or midnight skinny dipping in the pool. Yes, please! Also, Pisces rules the feet, so a good old-fashioned foot rub is never a bad idea! Another great way to show your love: support them. Not just emotionally, but also their goals, dreams, and creative pursuits. Let them know you believe in them. This will go a long way to building trust. One last thing: never promise something that you don’t plan on delivering. For example, if you’re not the marrying type, don’t lead them on. Be upfront. Burst the bubble. Even though they are emotional, they prefer the truth over a pretty but dishonest fairytale.

Pisces parents: Pisces parents are loving, kind, gentle, and supportive. They enjoy watching their little ones grow and will spoil them in every way. They’ll also accept their children as they are – and encourage them to follow their bliss. Spiritual, musical, and artistic interests will be happily supported. A Pisces parent will do anything for their children. They’ll make great sacrifices, even to their own detriment. For example, they’ll allow their adult children to live on their couch, eating them out of house and home. They might think they’re doing them a favor when, in reality, they’re keeping a cycle of codependency going. If they can avoid that scenario, they’ll be happier, and their kid will be healthier. For some Pisces parents, the responsibility of caring for a child will be too great. The idea of having one may seem like a good idea, but once the little one arrives and reality sets in, they’re ready to bolt or hand off the “dirty” work to someone else.

Pisces children:  Sweet-natured, creative, and shy, Pisces children are easy to love. Give them plenty of affection, and you’ll be rewarded with big hugs and plenty of snuggles. They’re artistic and may show a talent for music, drawing, or dance. Be sure to encourage this as much as possible. Because they’re timid, they’ll need plenty of confidence boosting. Praise works wonders to instill healthy self-esteem. Pisces children want to believe that everything and everyone is good. When they encounter bullies and terrible things, it can crush their spirits. In that case, they’ll retreat into a dream world. Parents need to teach good coping skills so they can remain rooted.

Pisces bosses: Pisces can be excellent bosses because they are sympathetic. They care about their employees and customers – and will do whatever they can to make sure the environment is harmonious. They’re also highly intuitive, so they’ll be good judges of character. Hence, they usually hire well. However, they can be weak leaders. If they don’t learn how to assert boundaries, the employees will walk all over them. That sympathetic nature makes them a sucker for “hard luck” stories. Once they start feeling sorry for someone, their intuition goes by the wayside along with their common sense.

Pisces employees: The Pisces employee wants to do a great job. Therefore, they’ll go above and beyond to make sure everything is done well. They want to please the boss. They’re fabulous listeners, so it’s best to put them in a position where they can take care of others. Because they are creative thinkers, they also fare well in positions where they can solve problems. You can be assured they’ll find the one unique solution no one else considered. When the work environment becomes difficult, they can easily lose their enthusiasm. If it becomes too toxic, they’ll swim for the exit as quickly as possible.

Pisces friends: Pisces are lovely friends. They’re idealistic, sensitive, and terrific listeners. When you need to vent, there is no one better to hear you out. They’ll give great advice and won’t judge you for throwing shade. In fact, they’ll be happy to join in! They’re fab hosts and throw the best shindigs. If you are invited into their lair, you’ll be treated like royalty. While Pisces are intuitive, they can sometimes choose their friends unwisely. They may get excited because of shared interests and begin confiding before they know whether or not the other person is trustworthy. In some cases, they can take on the coloring of dubious types and act in ways not aligned with their ideals. Or they become prey to grifters who take advantage of their good nature. Pisces must take great care when choosing companions. The other side of the coin is the Pisces mooch – that friend who seems to be always wanting something whether that be money, a ride, or a couch to sleep on. When Pisces goes that route, they’ll wear out their welcome quickly. No one likes a freeloader!

I hope you enjoy this peek into tender-hearted Pisces. Next up in our series: Moons.
