Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers three questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

Talkin' Tarot with Gina Jean

It’s no secret how much I love Scorpios. They are mysterious, deep, and full of passion. Every single one intrigues me. So it’s no surprise that I love everything about Gina Jean.

I met her at a tarot conference many moons ago. She walked into the room and I could feel her presence. Gina didn’t need to say one word – her spirit filled the space and I was instantly drawn to her. Since that time, we’ve been friends and she’s been one of my favorite people to see at the yearly Reader’s Studio.

She’s an incredible tarot reader. Gina has the skills that only come from many years of working with the cards. But she’s also got something else: that psychic sense that sees through every situation right down to the core. That intuitive gift has allowed her to build a fan base of people all over the world who come to her when they need an accurate read on a situation.

In addition to tarot, Gina is also a medium and can communicate with spirits. Often, messages from the spiritual world come through in her tarot readings, in what she calls “tarot mediumship.” She also reads dominoes and will be teaching a class on that next year at the Readers Studio Divination Day. I am sure this will be the highlight of the conference for me!

 Bio:

Gina Jean is an International tarot reader based in NYC. She has been reading cards for over 18 years and her gift is passed down from her maternal and paternal grandmothers from the Caribbean. She is a natural empath, clairvoyant, energy healer, intuitive, and medium who uses the tarot as her tool.

A graduate of the Tarot School in NY, she has studied many different facets of readings for many years including the study of Kabbalah, crystal magic, and numerology. Her journey began by being baptized in the Rosicrucian Order. At a very young age, she was studying meditation and the aura of a candle. She served as a Colombe in the mystical temple till age 16.

Born and raised in NY this Haitian-American knew early on that her experiences with the lwa (spirits in Haitian culture) and her ancestors were very visible and she could communicate with them. In July of 2018, she was initiated into Vodou as a manbo asogwe in Haiti. Her readings are guided by her spirit guides and help to provide clarity in life’s difficult questions. She reads for clients all over the world including Paris, France, and London, UK. Every October she is a guest psychic for the month at Salem’s Festival of the Dead where she does tarot and mediumship readings. She is currently the resident reader at the world-famous Employees Only and Raouls restaurant in NYC. Her innate gift as an intuitive counselor has rewarded her with clients such as Refinery29, Louis Vuitton, American Express and Teen Vogue.

Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?

Gina:  Tarot reading is a form of divination in which 78 cards of wisdom are used to help diagnose your current situation in life. I like to look at it as a blackboard to this thing we call life; a “tableau” of sorts. I don’t believe in telling the future. I believe my clients are the masters of their own destinies and create their futures. Every action taken brings them closer to their unique destiny. From time to time I also receive direct messages from spirit through a form of “tarot mediumship”. I use the tarot as a channel to the other side based on how the cards reveal themselves in the reading. The messages are usually very clear and give us proof that those that have passed are still with us.

Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?

Gina:  I feel like a client will get the most out of a reading with me if they come prepared to “work” into getting their desired outcome in life. What do I mean by that? Most people expect the cards to tell them exactly what to do. I believe that to be the “lazy” way of getting the cards read. Not only are you exhausting your reader in a sense you are also not taking matters into your own hands. Rather than asking the most popular question ever, “When will I find the love of my life?”, try something like “What do I need to work on now that can help me find the love of my life?” It creates active energy in your body and works with the element of earth. Then CREATE, MANIFEST, and MOVE FORWARD!

Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring Tarot reader?

Gina: Start out slow, Go with your gut when choosing a tarot deck. I started learning the tarot with the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith Deck but pretty much anything goes nowadays. Practice with friends. Start a tarot journal. Buy Theresa’s coloring book! It’s a great way to get to know the Major arcana but also connect with your own form of color therapy. Do your research. Books are your friend. Mary Greer’s Tarot for Your Self was one of the first workbooks on tarot I used.

Pick a card for yourself every day. Don’t abuse the tarot. Take the message and accept it, don’t keep pulling cards until you get the answer you want. Travel, find decks in different places. And last but not least keep learning, we are perpetual students in this thing we call life!
