Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers three questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

Talkin' Tarot with Mercury Pothocare

One of the things I adore about social media is meeting people around the world. There are so many intriguing folks out there I would never connect with if it weren’t for social media. Take Mercury Pothocare for example. He lives in the UK, which makes it pretty unlikely we’d be bumping into each other at the local market. And what a shame that would be if we never made a connection because Mercury Pothocare is a wonderful human being…and a great tarot reader.

He may be the new kid on the block but he has the innate ability to understand how the cards work – and how to use them in an empowering way. Mercury has attended classes with me and I’ve been impressed with his interpretation skills and, more importantly, his thoughtful delivery. That’s the thing that separates the good from the great tarot readers: knowing how to deliver information in a helpful, soul-centered way makes certain people stand out. Mercury Pothocare is building a reputation for intuitive talent and compassion.

When he’s not slinging cards, you can find him busy developing a magical candle and bath salts line. If you’re looking for spiritual gifts for a loved one or yourself, you’ll want to bookmark his page because he keeps adding more products! He says this about his line: “When you use a Mercury Pothocare product, you should feel like you are treating yourself to a magical spa treatment from the comfort of your own home.” I cannot wait to see how this line grows. (Psst…everything is hand-made with the best ingredients including essential oils – no imitation stuff!)

Mercury Pothocare should emphasize the CARE part of his name because ultimately, he cares a lot about his clients and friends in the tarot community. There is a bright future ahead for him in tarot – and we’re the lucky ones for that.

Bio:

In his own words: I am a super newbie to the world of tarot and magick. After reading for friends and family for about 2 years, I started my tarot reading business in November 2020 after I lost my job in the Performing Arts due to COVID-19. I have always been intuitive (I’m a Pisces) but just never had the vocab before to describe the sensations and experiences I was having. After joining a psychic development circle in London, and joining The Tarot Lady’s Patreon, I realized that I had a talent for working with spirit and wanted to pursue it further.

I was born and raised in Scotland, but am currently based in London, UK. I call upon my Celtic heritage in all of my work. You can take the boy out of Scotland, but you can’t take Scotland out of the boy! I am also a proud G in the LGBTQIA+ community. Fusing together my heritage and my values, my work is a big fusion of tradition and progression. Is there such a thing as modern tradition? Watch this space!

As Mercury, I wear many hats. I am an intuitive tarot reader, a spiritual candlemaker, an actor, and – as of recently – a qualified person-centered spiritual life coach. I will work with anyone. I am fascinated by people and their stories. As an actor, my job is to tell stories. As a Tarot Reader, Healer, and Coach, my job is to help people write theirs. It’s a privilege to do this work.

Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?

Mercury: I believe that every reading should be a healing experience. As soon as someone comes into a reading – even if it is just for a general reading – my purpose as a reader is to ensure that they leave with a clarity they didn’t enter with. There is no baggage shaming, merely storage solutions. I come from a therapy and counseling background, and although Tarot readers are not therapists, we do have a therapeutic effect and a duty of care for our clients. Oftentimes, we are the first stepping stone for people towards their journey to therapy. There is a huge responsibility that comes with picking up the cards for someone, and I take that very seriously. I do also like to throw a good pinch of humour into the mix, too. The world is far too serious as it is!

Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?

Mercury: Come into the reading with an open heart and a curious mind. If there is one thing I know from working with the chakras, it is that I try my best to create a loving, safe space so don’t feel ashamed to bring in any emotions that you are feeling. It’s all allowed, and all valid (except when you ask when your ex is coming back into the picture – the cards always fly everywhere when that happens!)

Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring tarot reader?

Mercury: This seems rich coming from me because I am still very much fresh-faced in this community. What I would say, however, is that the learning process never stops! Keep studying, keep drilling the basics, and keep your faith when things go wrong. Things will go wrong. Own it, and keep moving forward. My other piece of advice is to keep doing your own shadow work too. Your mental health is so important too. Don’t be too busy being the healer, that you forget that you, too, are worthy of healing.
