Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers three questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

Talkin' Tarot with Tatianna Tarot

Shooting stars are so intriguing. I love to watch them. Not just the ones in the sky but also the ones here on earth. In the tarot world, the brightest shooting star of them all is Tatianna Tarot of My Urban Illumination. I’ve been watching her meteoric rise over the last few years. It’s been hella impressive.

Wise beyond her years, this natural tarot talent is making her mark with an extra-smart social media presence, cool classes, amazing retreats, and a focus on empowerment. It’s no wonder she’s capturing the attention of major mags such as LATINA and MadameNoire. In my opinion, she’s THE tarot “it” girl – she’s got that special something.

When this busy tarot star isn’t slinging cards or teaching people how to raise their consciousness, she’s taking care of her family, which includes a beautiful new baby girl. She’s got a lot on her plate but you don’t need to worry about her dropping the ball: she’s fierce. I can’t wait to see where she takes tarot next.

Get into her world while you can because this one is blowing up big-time.

Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?

Tatianna: Tarot is a phenomenal way to get creative and expose your mind to various pathways and experiences one can take in their lifetime. It’s been a great tool to help teach accountability, empowerment, responsibility, awareness and how to tap deeper into one’s intuition and psychic abilities just by telling a story and digging into your emotions. When I read, I focus on the feeling of the cards rather than the prescribed definition – this is helpful as well but it shouldn’t be the only factor when reading an individual or self. I’ve been able to explore the myriad of characteristics/personalities I contain within me and also sharpen my attention to patterns storylines that are playing within and around my life. It’s very similar to watching a movie play out except that they’re cards.

Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?

Tatianna: Clarity of one’s intention always helps me the most. I always advise clients to know why they are coming to me and what it is that they’re seeking. Even if the precise reasoning is uncertain, phrasing something as simple as: “I know I’m meant to receive some guidance on what I need to hear at this time and I’m feeling particularly pulled to getting a reading. I’d be open to hearing any insight that is channeled for me at this moment…” is better than”I don’t know” or receiving a really broad question or a question that takes away a client’s power.

I also suggest that the client come in with an open mind and heart, that way I can pull more juice and substance from the cards. Having a rigid stance on things, keeping a wall up or even coming through with anxious and pressed energy, shake me up personally and creates a barrier to the information that is coming through. Relaxation is key and coming through with curiosity and a playful demeanor is best.

Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring Tarot reader?

Tatianna: Practice, Practice, Practice! Don’t hesitate to play and have fun with the cards and incorporate your personal lens and passions into this game. I think many forget that it is a game and they don’t have fun with Tarot – they treat it like a textbook. Learn the rules so that you can break them and then invent some more. Do what works for you and listen to your gut. Don’t overlook the opportunity to read a stranger, pull at various hours during the day, document your Tarot journey or even incorporate Tarot into various art forms that you may already partake in. It’s a lifelong journey so take your time and incorporate it into your lifestyle – whatever that looks like to you.
