Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers 3 questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

One of the reasons I like to attend tarot conferences is because in addition to hobnobbing with tarot greats such as Mary Greer and Rachel Pollack,  I also get to meet some incredible up-and-coming tarot readers.  Young talent that I might not know about such as Shavonne Readus, better known as V. of Red Light Readings, are starting to hit the tarot conference scene and these newbies are certainly worth getting to know because they are the future of this industry.

V caught my eye almost immediately.  Her mega-watt smile lit up the room and you could tell right off the bat that she was passionate about her tarot game.  Behind the scenes, many of us were gushing about her – not just for her spunky personality but also for the accurate and down-to-earth readings she was delivering all weekend long.  Since that time last year, I’ve gotten to know her better and I’m glad I did.  She’s one of my favorite referrals because I know she’s tarot-proficient, smart as a whip, and reliable.  All qualities that make a top notch tarot experience.

Bio:

V. is a “round the way” girl with class, sass, and pizazz that just so happens to read cards. Referred to as the “Tarot BFF” by her clients and those in the tarot world, V.’s reading style is that of a best friend who’s mission is to give straight-forward advice to help others make empowered decisions for taking charge in every aspect their lives. Picking up her first tarot deck at the tender age of 19, she fell in love with the symbology on the cards and the way they spoke to her in a way nothing else had. She sought clarity from the tarot and the cards served as prayer, messages from the Divine and Higher Self, intentions, and guidance, all of which she proudly offers each client that blesses the seat and/or screen across from her. V. specializes in email, phone, and in-person readings (locally) that range in time and style to best suit your needs.

V. is not only the Intuitive Mistress behind Red Light Readings, but also an Intuitive Reader at the BEST metaphysical and psychic readings store in Metro Detroit – The Boston Tea Room. If you’re ever in town, go “get red”!

Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?

V: I believe that tarot reading is a gateway into the subconscious mind and an activity that can bring empowerment, self-awareness, and balance to one’s daily life. Tarot takes your brain off of what you can physically see, touch, taste, smell, and hear and focuses on the intuitive aspects of each of those senses by offering a simple or detailed picture, depending on your deck, and asking what you feel by looking at the card. Tarot is for everyone. It’s for the girl that wants to know about the new guy in her life. It’s for the new mom that is looking to understand how to balance motherhood, family, and self. It’s for the CEO that is at war with him/herself about a decision he/she needs to make for the benefit of the company. Tarot readings have no specific population; they are for any and everyone that has ever been at a crossroads in life and is seeking clarity.

Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?

V: I am the “Tarot BFF” and I like to create an atmosphere of trust, confidentiality, humor, tough love, and absolutely NO JUDGEMENT, whether that be virtually or sharing physical space. I am a very approachable, practical, down-to-earth, and “tell it how it is” type of reader and the best readings happen when a client is comfortable, completely transparent, and open to taking action to improve and/or change their current state of events. When I am asked to read on a certain situation, I not only give the information that comes up on the table, but also an action plan to push them closer to their desired outcome. My goal in every reading is to make my clients feel safe, comfortable, empowered, and successful. If you are looking for someone you can kick it with that just so happens to read cards to help you “get your life”, I’m your reader.

Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring tarot reader?

V: Trust yourself. Easier said than done, I know, but trusting your gut is more than half the battle with reading tarot. Read for yourself and read often. See how the cards FEEL to you and internalize those feelings so that they become second nature to you when they pop up in for you or your client. Gaining confidence in reading comes from practice and trusting what you are receiving intuitively from the pictures/words that show up on the table. Turn off the filter of your brain that wants to monitor what may sound silly to you or make absolutely no sense, because it may just mean the world to your client.
