The Hit List - The end of Saturn’s return

Yesterday, Saturn left Pisces for Aries. This marked the end of my second Saturn return, an astrological rite of passage into the role of the “wise elder.” Sounds groovy and spiritual, right? Frankly, it was anything but. In fact, it was a two-and-a-half-year test of mettle. I am not sad to see this period hit the road.

If you’re not astro-savvy, let me clue you in. At the time you are born, all the planets line up in different zodiac signs. This is what makes each chart unique. My Saturn is in Pisces. A Saturn return occurs approximately every 27 – 28 years. This means it’s possible to experience three in your lifetime.

The first happens around age 27 and symbolizes the entry into adulthood. When you’re in your late 50s, you get your second, the one I just completed. It’s not only about becoming an official elder, but also time to plan the golden years. A third one is possible because many of us will live well into our 80s. That return is an opportunity to tie up loose ends, forgive, make peace with the past, and prepare your legacy.

Each Saturn return is a transition. They’re profound, but that doesn’t mean they are easy. Saturn is the hard taskmaster of the zodiac, so each return brings lessons. But if you do the work, the rewards are immense.

My return kicked off on a dramatic note when I had to step in and rescue a loved one from an abusive relationship. Once that situation was contained, I found myself dealing with multiple betrayals from people I assumed I could trust. (I should have known better on a few of these treacherous types.) Saturn lifted my rose-colored glasses and showed me I needed discernment – and better boundaries. (Saturn in Pisces people want to believe everyone is good…so disillusionment is a theme.)

Despite all of this drama, many things fell into place. I’m leaving my Saturn return wiser, more cautious, and with a solid set of boundaries – and a much smaller social circle.

I’m grateful for the lessons, but happy to be done. Alright, Saturn in Aries people – it’s your turn! You got this!
