The Hit List - It's never too late

My parents were older. Dad was 50 when I was born, so he was a senior citizen before I finished high school. I always viewed them as old people, not just because of the massive generation gap, but also the way they talked about aging.

The dour warnings were constant and always revolved around “one day.” One day, you’ll learn. One day, you’ll look back and wish you hadn’t do it. One day, you’ll find out the hard way. One day, you’ll realize your time is up. Blah blah blah. Both of them struggled with health and money, so it seemed like their fatalistic statements were facts.

Needless to say, this instilled a lot of anxiety about aging. Would I be forced to accept some mysterious but horrible lot in life? Am I doomed to be bitter, broken, and broke? Were regrets the only way? Are my youthful dreams nothing more than fantastical fantasies that were bound to fail?

Now that I’m only four short years away from being a senior citizen, I’m here to say that none of that was true. While some things didn’t work out and arthritis (boo!), I don’t feel regrets – or “old.” Instead, I’m in the middle of a new season of life, with more books on the way, career changes, and exciting plans. Although there is an end in sight (eventually), I feel like I’m just beginning…again.

Because that’s the secret: it’s never too late.

My dreams of becoming a published author weren’t realized until I hit the big five-oh. Since that time, I’ve written ten books and three tarot decks. I’m not stopping – I’ve got plenty of creative juice to spare and things I want to write.

Madonna just released a banger of an album – at 67. The Queen of Pop isn’t ready to stop. Sure, there are a few sour types who think she should “give it up, grandma,” but that negativity is not on her radar. Instead, she’s showing up and glowing up in exciting new ways. Proof that life doesn’t quit once you’re at a “certain age.”

No matter your age, there are no rules on when you should sit back and accept whatever. Look ahead – there is always room to change your game, write the new chapter, and do the thing you’ve always wanted to do. Start now. It’s never too late to begin living your life, your way.
