truth about shedding and letting go

As I mentioned in my September preview (and various other places I like to hang out), I’ve been doing a massive amount of shedding in the last few weeks.

It’s big time fall cleaning around here, especially in my biz.

I’ve moved my email list and pretty much ended up with a pared down and cleaner version of the previous one.

I’ve been gently dismantling business offerings (but bringing new cool swag in for my peeps).

I’ve left Facebook groups where I’ve had little to no activity or interest.

I’ve cleared out other things in my digital world down to the bone (still have to tackle that book pile in the real world though).

I’m starting to feel new and shiny and clear.

But there is one thing that continues to comes up again and again as I move through this letting go process:  fear.

The truth about shedding is this:  as you begin to release (things, people, groups, offerings, old biz models, books, etc.), you start to panic.

What if I need that book/thing/group/pair of hot pants?  What if I get rid of this and then have to buy it all over again?  What if I cut that list down and end up with no business?  What the hell am I doing?  I’ve taken so long to accumulate this…maybe I should hold on…blah, blah, blah.

Thankfully, I can recognize that fear voice and I push the button anyways.

I take a deep breath and then delete.  Throw it out.  Say goodbye.  Walk away.

And guess what?  It’s forgotten as quickly as a centipede scooting around  in the dark (those suckers are fast, by the way).

It’s time to undo and to make space.

It may be scary as hell, but oh the liberation.  Free, free, free.

no regrets

What I want: a life with no regrets.  And that’s what this is all about.  As I always say, no one gets spiritual by holding on.

Other stuff:

Kids are so damn smart nowadays.  This young fella made an app that exposes sellout politicians!  LOVE that.

If you are a tarot lover, you’ll want to check out the goodness that is happening over at Four Queens such as this post about learning to love the Pentacles suit.  She’s also got a new e-book for tarot readers that I’ve been digging into.  This is a bright tarot star, my friends.

Nnnnooooodddddooooooorrrrr:  Hodor and Bran won’t be back this season!

A Hormone Horoscope?  Looks interesting but I wonder what she has to say about menopause.

A beautiful post per at Positively Positive about how to receive guidance when you are feeling lost, confused, and stuck.

What do you think about CVS pulling smoking supplies from their stores?  I think it’s great!  I always thought it was odd that drug stores sold cigarettes.

This is a very good post on the hacked nude celebrity pictures.  I think it’s terrible that this happened to these women.  I hope those perpetrators get caught.

Fab post for professional tarot readers from Benebell Wen: Professional Tarot and Tax.  She breaks down tax law very nicely.  (PS it’s not as scary as you think, friends.)

Musician Shawn Colvin opens up about her struggle with depression.  I really appreciate when people share their stories about depression.  These dialogues are so important.

I always dig supporting artists!  The Residuals is a fun and witty show about tv commercials and the auditions.  They are gearing up for season two and need a little help.  Get to their Kickstarter page and give generously, yo.

This may be the greatest thing ever: Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nothing ta Fuck Wit – sung by the movies!   OMG!

I always loathed picture day at school.  These pics are pretty damn funny.

Are you coming to the Readers Studio 2015?  Doors are open and I’d love to see your face in the crowd.

Supposedly, modern life is making us dumber.  Watch any reality show and you may believe this.

If you are in the entrepreneur world, you probably hear people brag all the time about seven figure businesses.  Melissa Cassera lays it out on why she could care less about having a seven figure business.  Sing it, sister!  (PS to entrepreneurs who train entrepreneurs – why is everyone doing a “six pillar” thing?  What’s with that???)

This new course from Hannah Marcotti looks delish: Community Grace.  I swore I would do no more courses but oh my this looks tempting.

I love learning how writers work.  Esmé Wang and Debra Smouse give peeks into their writing habits and habitats.

What I’m Grateful For:

Having enough – and knowing when I do

Industrial strength skin serum

Physical flexibility

Tweezers

Decadent steak dinners

Community

Soundtrack for 9/6/14:  “I’m Alive” by Michael Franti – this is how shedding makes me feel for realz:

Here’s to bashing fear over the head,

Have a great week!
