young-and-old

Yesterday was Valentines Day but I feel that I live it every day.  So this post is dedicated to my one and only (picture above is him many moons ago – and him today, aging well like some damn rock and roll Dorian Gray).

I remember the first time I saw you. You looked like this back in the day with your jet black hair and gothy good looks:

 gothy-goodness

My heart went ping and I had “the knowing”.    (My parents had love at first sight so I am a firm believer that the heart just knows.)

I knew one day we’d be more than a passing, flirty glance.

After all, how could I resist?  I was a dark ‘n troubled Gemini with a wanderlust that couldn’t be quenched (and a penchant for musicians).  I was searching for my missing, brooding twin.  And you were deeper than deep and too damn smart for your own good.  And I knew. I just knew.

I had heard the rumors.  You were “arrogant”, a confirmed bachelor, and a “dick”.  (The last two proved to be wrong but arrogant…yes, that you are.  I happen to love cocky men.)  I also like to ignore hearsay and see what’s under the hood myself. Plus you were hot and hotness tends to make me forget all about what other people are saying.

It took a few years before we finally connected but once we did, I never let go (neither did you).

You accepted me as is (and I am mighty flawed so that is a tall order).

I came with baggage but you carried those bags with me (you made them seem so light but they were heavy to me).

You were the first completely honest person I ever met.  (I thought they didn’t exist except in movies.)

You invited me in and asked me to stay. (Note: I thought I was clever to move in like that but you outsmarted me.  I said you were too smart – but perhaps for my own good.)

I know I’m a pest and I sometimes get on your nerves like a monkey picking the fleas off your back.  Yet somehow you put up with it.  And you don’t run.

I tend to run. I’m a commitment phobe. I was always sketchy with long term anything because the truth is, I never felt safe.  You were the first person who ever made me feel secure.

You’ve been the best damn lover and protector that a gal could ever ask for.  I still swoon when I see you (It’s not the wine, I swear!).  And I only have eyes for you, my dear (ignore my lusting over Jared Leto and Eugene Hutz because they pretty much look like different versions of you).

Thank you for being my best friend and for making the last twenty two years pure magick.

I love you.

taozenvalentine My cat, TaoZen, made a Valentine!  (He’s the other main man in my life.)

Other stuff:

People back in the day had some seriously creepy Valentines ideas. And for modern lovers, this is some funny shizz.

Who knew Sid Ceasar was so buff? RIP.

Pace Smith has a new ebook that you will want to get asap: The 11 Most Dangerous Myths about Finding Your Path.  A must read.

This naughty boy has some creative excuses for his shenanigans

Molly Lambert’s post on the Dylan Farrow story is worth checking out.  Thoughtful and well done writing on a controversial subject.

Shirley Manson is um….not herself

My friend, Catherine Chapman, is back behind the wheel at Tarot Elements, one of my favorite tarot sites (and in my opinion, one of the best, hands down).  Catherine has just released a fantastic ebook, Card Counting Tutorial.  GET IT.  I got my copy the other day and it’s full o’ good info that will help you accelerate your tarot skills.

Overdose victims are more likely to die in these states. How did your state rate?

A Mighty Girl is a great site for gifts for girls (that are not all gag-me pink and overly feminized).

Did you see Jimmy Kimmel’s series on “Celebrities Read Mean Tweets?”  I laughed so hard, I almost spit out my tea.  John Goodman’s and Matt Damon’s reactions were priceless!

Anna Guest-Jelly of Curvy Yoga fame has just opened the doors for Curve Camp 2014!  “It’s kinda like a yoga retreat — except with less chanting + more cornbread.”  Seven groovy speakers (including my faves, Alexandra Franzen and Dyana Valentine), yoga for every body, and Nashville?  YES.  (My husband and I had the best barbecue ever in Nashville so I’m trying to use that as a way to lure him into heading to this mighty fine jamboree of awesome.)

This might be the best Valentines gift ever: Inside A Thug’s Heart by Angela Ardis.  Just got this yesterday from my bestest OM-ie and all around badass astrologer, Starcana. You rock, lady!  PS Feeling like the planets are acting testy? Want to learn how to work your Mercury retrograde or other dubious aspects?  Starcana has a daily horoscope you may want to check out. Make those planets your bitch!

“You don’t have to get well to live well.”  ~ Grace Quantock.  This quote struck me – it’s from her latest post, Embodying Freedom With Chronic Illness.  Grace also offers Sparkle Reiki sessions, yo.

I like keeping an eye on upcoming tarot books and decks.  Soon to be published stuff I am waiting on: Mystical Cats Tarot Tarot Beyond the Basics: Gain a Deeper Understanding of the Meanings Behind the Cards, The Celtic Cross Tarot Spread: Cutting to the Chase and 365 Tarot Spreads: Revealing the Magic in Each Day.  Now, where to put all this stuff?  (I swear, it looks like a library and a church threw up in my house.)

I dig this post by Christina Rasmussen of Second Firsts: Money = Happiness.  “Don’t kill the dream so you can die with more money in your account.” – YES!

From Yogipreneur Racheal Cook:  The surprising connection between living a life you LOVE and designing a profitable, sustainable BUSINESS.  Truth!

La Garçonne is my new favorite fashion site.  WOW.  Gorgeous clothes, luxury items (some are surprisingly affordable) + shipped to your home.  I hate hitting the stores so this is way fab.  And OMG I am in love with this 3.1 Philip Lim purse!

What I’m Grateful For:

A partner that really gets me

Being able to experience unconditional love (or something close to it)

Parents who loved each other madly (thanks for the good example, guys)

Being heard

Warmth in the air

Boundaries

Soundtrack for 2/15/14:  “Lovesong” by The Cure – this song articulates my feelings better than I ever could

For all you lovers out there – have a love-filled week,

Theresa
