pretty-winter-sky

I’m a fan of cold weather.  And for me, the colder the better.  Why?

It’s because I despise sweating.  There is nothing grosser to me than being covered in salty sweat.  It may be sexy on the likes of David Beckham but it’s NOT attractive on me.

I like to say I’m a hot blooded gal and I’m always feeling heated. (Is it a fire in my belly?  Passion in my veins?  Hot flashes?)

This winter, we’ve been in a so called “polar vortex” and I’ve been wearing t-shirts.  I kid you not.  It’s been hovering around three degrees fahrenheit and here I sit in my baggy Wu Tang garb.  I’m hot, man.  Burning.  And it ain’t a fever.

But while I’m digging this deep freeze and my less sweaty self, I’m getting restless.  Stir crazy.  I’m scratching from the inside out to do something other than sit home and work.

I check the weather reports constantly, like one of those experimental monkeys hitting the food button.  Sadly, there is no let up in sight.  It’s a relentless, brutal winter out there. Which means I have no choice but to be content with cooking, reading, writing, and television.  And tarot.  Lots and lots of tarot.

Six more weeks says the groundhog.  Six more weeks of sitting more and sweating less.  I can do this. Because I know that, despite the weather reports, his too, shall pass. And then I’ll begin to bitch about how hot it is.

last-orthodontist-visitThis winter also marks my last visit with my orthodontist.  I have been on a mission to close the gap in my front teeth and it’s done!  This was an expensive mouth year but I’m thrilled with the results.  New head shots to follow soon.

Other stuff:

Werewolf cats?  YES!  This new breed is cute as can be.

This cat took off for three years and hid out in a pastry factory.  Smart boy.

Designer Diane von Furstenberg has always been one of my favorites.  Check out the 40th anniversary celebration around her iconic wrap dress.

Ever feel rejected?  Tanya Geisler has a post for you.  Read this and digest every word.

Casting off my womb by performance artist Casey Jenkins.  Not sure what to say about this but wow.

I love feel good stories.  This man dipped into his own pocket to pay off students’ negative lunch bills.  Kenny Thompson is an example of kindness and compassion in ACTION.

Beauty queens endure a lot.  And some of it is NOT necessary.

Winter getting you nuts too?  Lisa Selow writes about self care for the winter months.

Oh Susannah!  I dig what Susannah Conway and a bunch of wise women are doing in this post: The (delicious) truth about getting older. Word to my enlightened soul sistahs!

What’s happening in Malawi needs to be talked about.  Ten year old girls are being sent to “sex initiation camps”.  This is all sorts of wrong.

Liu Bolin – a real life Where’s Waldo.  Must see to believe.

This Russian family was hidden deep in the woods for 40 years. FASCINATING.

I hate sports but I love the John Stamos Superbowl ad.  Hilarious!  Say what you want about Stamos but that dude still has plenty of swerve.

Do you have issues setting up systems for your business?  Abby Kerr has you covered in her new course.  I am SO in.

Valentines Day is coming up!  Do you have trouble saying the L word?  No worries – Alexandra Franzen is your new Cyrano de Bergerac with her lovely little ebook.

My husband and I did our first joint interview over at Creative Juice Arts.  We’re talking about how we operate as a creative couple.  Secret: create a safe container for your partner to create.  We share how we both do just that for each other.  (And that’s us in the pic below.)

fleetwood-blackMe and my main squeeze.  Still going strong after 22 years!

What I’m Grateful For:

Sunshine on a cold day

iPhones

Yoga students that show up, no matter what the weather

The roof over my head

Sitting on the couch, doing nothing

True Detective

Saturday lunch dates with my husband
