 Gonzo Tarot

Back in the day, I used to read tarot in all sorts of locations: bars, restaurants, parties, attics, basements, outdoors, etc.  (You get the picture – everywhere.)

These days, I only read in my office (because of my hearing issues, this is the best space for me).

Reading in different surroundings presents interesting challenges – and results.  In fact, it’s a great practice for beginning readers to switch up the environment from time to time and see what happens.

Here’s what you’ll need: a tarot deck, a journal, and a curious mind (you do not need a partner to do this, and, in some cases, it won’t be appropriate).

Read tarot in the following situations:

  • in a crowded bar
  • on a moving bus or subway
  • in the waiting room at a doctor’s or dentist’s office
  • in your car
  • in a park on a sunny day
  • in a coffee shop
  • in a train station
  • in a library
  • at your mom’s house during a holiday
  • in a tiny bathroom, on the floor
  • in a child’s room
  • in a tent in the middle of nowhere at night (or your backyard)
  • in a cemetery
  • at a parade
  • in a zoo on a weekday
  • in your bedroom with no lights

In your journal, on a separate page for each situation, answer the following questions:

  • What was my initial impression of the environment?
  • How did I feel as I began to read?  (Ex: comfortable, unfocused, hesitant, etc.)
  • How might this environment have affected my reading?
  • How might I read better in this situation?

You may be very surprised at your answers to those questions.  And the best part?  You’ve just upped your skill level like a true tarot ninja –  because a good reader is able to throw down like a badass no matter where they are.

Blessings!

Theresa
