If you follow my online world, you’ve probably already put two and two together: I’m nuts about cats.
I tend to catjack a lot of things on the world wide web (especially my Instagram and private Facebook page). While that annoys some people (especially those who despise feline photography), my “boys” are a major part of my life and I love sharing them with the world (the gray one, TaoZen, is now convinced he’s an “internet celebrity”).
I learn a LOT from TaoZen and Monkey. Most pet owners probably say the same thing about their animal companions.
Some of my favorite cat lessons:
To ask for what I want. Doesn’t matter if I’m busy, TaoZen makes sure to let me know that he needs a petting session and he’s not afraid to step right up and go for it. (He IS on my lap right now.)
To be present. When a cat gives you attention, he’s not busy checking his cell phone. He’s there 100%.
The power of a nap. During allergy season, my wiring goes haywire and I’m constantly tired. Yet I don’t want to shirk on my duties. These cats don’t worry about such things. If they are tired, they nap. Self care is always in vogue in cat world. (Plus, a nap insures they are able to be up all night!)
How to command a room. When clients come to my office, they immediately go for one of the boys. Why? It’s because they both know how to lock eyes with the clients and make an effort to be friendly and be seen. These confident cats show this old introvert how it’s done like a boss. (Some of my clients actually REQUEST that the cats be present for their readings!)
Patience. Ever watch a cat stalk a bug? They concentrate and nothing else matters. They wait until the time is right and then – bam! They have their prey! Sometimes it’s a long process but they never give up. EVER. (And here I am, getting mad when a webpage doesn’t load “fast enough.”)
Love. That’s the main thing. The boys know how to give and receive love without fear. Imagine how big our capacity for love could be if we took fear out of the equation? No one has love without fear down better than these guys.
Monkey loves the luxe life.
Other stuff:
When I was a teen, one of the movies that had the greatest impact on my life was a German film about junkies called “Christiane F.” I read the book afterwards and always wondered what became of the real Christiane F (yes, this was a true story). Vice tracked her down and got the scoop on what she’s been up to since the film. They also snagged an interview with the guy who played her lover Detlev in the film!

Comparing two weddings: Clooney vs. West. Which one would you want to go to?
A sports car that runs on saltwater? I’m sure the oil guys will be thinking about draining the ocean next.
Check out this insanely cool daredevil Instagramming. These photos actually got this kid arrested!
Kate Pierson of the B52’s has got the digs you want when you’re in a camping mood. I despise the outdoors but this may get me to change my mind!
With all the people bitching about ditching Facebook and going on “not liking anything” sprees, I like this guy’s approach much better: he’s setting up coffee dates with all of his Facebook friends. YES.
I’m a Bar Rescue fanatic. Jon Taffer is yelling at someone in my hood this week. Can’t wait to see the results!
I’ve living in Wisconsin almost my whole life and never heard of “the hodag” until about a week ago. I want a hodag now!
Tyra launched a cosmetics line. Will I buy some? Probably. It better make me look fierce!
The next time you get all impressed with someone’s numbers (seven figure businesses! fifty thousand dollar launches! thousands of hits every day! a massive list!), read this. Grace Judson dismantles the hype and gets to the bottom of all the bragging.
Loran’s Heart does the perfect satire of those very icky sales pages that Grace is talking about. HILARIOUS!
I love the Tarot School newsletter. This month, they cover “vague questions” and how to answer them.
Have you signed up for their annual Reader’s Studio yet? I hope to see you tarot lovers there!
I’m a big fan of Donna Eden’s work. Looking forward to tucking into her latest work: The Energies of Love: Using Energy Medicine to Keep Your Relationship Thriving.
Have you read Pam Grout’s E-Squared: Nine Do-It-Yourself Energy Experiments That Prove Your Thoughts Create Your Reality? She just dropped another book with more energy experiments: The Energies of Love: Using Energy Medicine to Keep Your Relationship Thriving
. On my wish list!
The film I want to see the most: The Evolution of a Criminal by Darius Clark Monroe. Read his compelling interview over at Feministing.
Read up, booze hounds: binge drinking leads to lower sperm counts.

A home filled with love
Soundtrack for 10/4/14: “The Passenger” by Iggy Pop – my darling son took me out for dinner last night and this was my unofficial theme song for the evening.
Have a cat-tastic week!
