star school an intro to astrology for total beginnersAs we wind down this series, we’re going to explore a few odds and ends. Yes friends…we’re nearing the end of these Star School lessons!

In this lesson, we’ll look at the Lunar Nodes, Chiron, and the Part of Fortune.

Star School Lesson 33: Lunar Nodes, Chiron, and the Part of Fortune

This is brief look at the Lunar Nodes, Asteroids and Part of Fortune. While these may not be the most significant components of an astrological chart, most modern astrologers do find these to be useful. Hence, we’ve gotta talk about it.

Lunar Nodes

The Lunar Nodes are not planets (took me a while to figure that out). They are actually mathematical points. According to Wikipedia, “a lunar node is either of the two orbital nodes of the Moon, that is, the two points at which the orbit of the Moon intersects the ecliptic.” The Lunar Nodes show up in pairs, opposite signs, in the chart. The symbol looks like a horse shoe.

The South Node, which is the “dragon’s tail” indicates past life energy and the skills you brought in from previous incarnations. This is where it’s “easy” for you to go. Think of it as a past life comfort zone. If you hang out here too much, you miss opportunities for growth.

The North Node, also known as the “dragon’s head,” shows where you actually need to go. This is where you will want to press on, the part of your life that feels difficult but allows you to develop your fullest potential. It’s your ultimate life lesson.

I highly recommend Astrology for the Soul by Jan Spiller for more on the nodes.

Chiron

Chiron is an asteroid. It’s named after the Centaur who was known for his kindness, wisdom, and ability to heal. Ironically, he was accidentally maimed by a poison arrow and could not heal himself.

In the astrological chart, Chiron represents the sacred wound or the wounded healer, that part of yourself that is deeply hurt. If you work with Chiron, it can become your greatest strength – and your medicine for healing others. The symbol is a circle with a little “k” on top.

There are other asteroids well worth exploring. Recommend asteroid book:  Asteroid Goddesses: The Mythology, Psychology, and Astrology of the Re-Emerging Feminine by Demetra George and Douglas Bloch.

Part of Fortune

Like the Lunar Nodes, the Part of Fortune is not a planet. Instead, it’s a mathematical equation and part of the Arabic Points. There are many Arabic points but this one is the most widely used in astrology.

The Part of Fortune is where you’re blessed and wealthy. It’s your luck. The symbol is a circle with a cross in the middle.

Let’s look at our friend Kim Kardashian’s chart. Find her Lunar Nodes, Chiron, and Part of Fortune. What does this say about her karma, sacred wounds, and luck?

Next month,  I’ll give you the quick way to read any chart!

But until then…

Keep gazing at the stars – and stay curious,
