Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers 3 questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

Talkin' Tarot with Naha Armády

Before I visit a city, I make plans on where I’m going to eat. This often requires a bit of research on my part. I pore over food magazines and sites to see what might be interesting. It’s work but totally worth it. When it comes to metaphysical stuff, it doesn’t take as much effort. I always know where the cool spots are and which people I need to meet. This spring, I’m heading to Los Angeles and there are two things at the top o’ my list: visit House of Intuition and meet Naha Armády.

Naha caught my attention online and I was instantly tarot-smitten. With a gorgeous Instagram feed full of crystals, tarot, and rituals, it’s easy to see why (plus I am in love with her frog tattoo – my mother’s nickname was Frog so anything froggy and I’m in!). Her presence is totally unique – a groovy stand-out in a field of other metaphysical practices. Which meant only one thing: I need to know more. That’s why I invited her here today. To get to know more about her but also to introduce her to my peeps because I think they will fall in love too.

Naha studied the Western Mystery Tradition and built her foundation in Hermetic Qabalah, alchemy, theurgy, astrology, sacred geometry, and ritual magic. She weaves elements of all of this through her work. She reads tarot, leads rituals, and teaches her esoteric curriculum as the 22 Teachings School of Hermetic Science and Magical Arts. Naha says that 22 Teachings School of Hermetic Science and Magical Arts “offers a year-round curriculum of workshops, ceremony and course study for advancement of the GREAT WORK.” Her classes cover everything from tarot, to ritual, intuitive development, crystal healing, and magickal theory. Can’t make it live? You can join HOI TV and take online classes with her.

You can also find Naha at House of Intuition, where she reads tarot, teaches workshops, and offers her Middle Pillar Healing sessions, which CBS News said is one of the “Best ways to Detox” in 2014. As you can guess, I’m totally stoked to hit L.A. in March. The first place I’m heading? House of Intuition to meet Naha.

Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?

Naha: I use tarot as the telephone to my highest guidance, and it speaks through a symbolic language that my most inner and ancient self understands.

Like the hermit’s lantern of wisdom, the cards can shine a light upon what one is truly capable of. It can direct the lost and illuminate their path, or can warn the naïve – pointing out things they might be missing or ignoring. When I’m stuck, being too stubborn or confused, tarot can be that strategic and objective partner that can highlight my trajectory over obstacles or towards the achievement of my goals.

Tarot is like the clearest mirror, to see exactly what is going on inside, around, before and behind you.

Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?

Naha: Being open and willing to listen is a good place to start. I usually like to just open the cards without any information, and just ask that my client listen to what I see, and consider how it applies to their circumstances.

I want them to understand the part they play in creating their destiny, and realize that they can choose to work with the flow of what their higher self wants, or against it. Tarot gives more than information, it gives guidance that often requires follow through. They’ll get the most out of the reading if they are willing to do the work, and that means not just listening, but actually applying the information.

Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring tarot reader?

Naha: I saw an ad for a Master Cooking class by Gordon Ramsay and he said something like “In order to learn to cook, you have to do it”. In other words, you can read a million cookbooks but sooner or later you need to turn on the stove. So it is with tarot; you can study it, do readings for yourself, take classes, read books, but nothing will teach you like actually just doing it. Read for as many people as you can. It’s not the same as reading for yourself because you have to actually formulate the sentences, not just grasp the message in your mind. And that’s the most important thing: the message. A wise student of mine came up with the saying “Look for the message, not the meaning”. It’s so true! I don’t believe there is a set meaning for each card, but that a truly great reader looks beyond any understanding of meanings and reads the MESSAGE.

Finally, don’t be afraid of “being wrong”.  Just trust what you see and say it. You’ll surprise yourself, and the person you are reading for too!

No matter how many thousands of readings I’ve done, “how the cards know” never ceases to amaze me.
