The Hit List - If I was a billionaire

I was at the corner mart the other day, with the intention to grab a can of Mountain Dew to go along with the prosciutto panini I had just acquired from the local Italian deli. Two big tattooed guys were in front of me with a gallon of vodka. They seemed hung over so most likely this was their “hair of the dog” moment.

Gentlemen they were, they stepped aside to allow me to go ahead of them. I noticed the Powerball was looking high, so I got a ticket on a whim. “One of us deserves to win,” I chirped to these grizzly dudes and skipped out the door.

I didn’t get one number.

For the record, I am not the gambling type. I rarely buy lottery tickets. The wise part of me knows the odds are not in my favor. However, on rare occasions, I’ll bite. Sometimes I do this when the numbers are huge. Other times, I’m worried about money (I know that sounds counterintuitive). No matter what the reason, it gives me an opportunity to dream about what I would do if I were suddenly a billionaire.

Yachts, cheek filler, designer gowns, million-dollar watches? God no!

If I was a billionaire, I’d make sure everyone I loved was okay. That would be my priority. I’d fix a few things on my home, but nothing gold-plated. That’s not how I would ever roll.

If I was a billionaire, no one would go hungry. Affordable housing would be available. Clean drinking water? I’d be on a mission to ensure everyone had access. Why isn’t this a thing now?

If I was a billionaire, I’d invest in clean energy, public education, science, and books. Because everyone needs books. Every child who wants to go to college = done.

If I was a billionaire, I’d build libraries, hospitals, museums, parks, and things for the public to enjoy for free. Charities would be fully funded, and elderly folks would be well cared for. I would petition for a safe, equitable world. If that meant paying more taxes, I wouldn’t give a shit.

If I was a billionaire, one thing is obvious: I would be a reverse Robin Hood – I’d rob from myself to give to the poor. Which means: I would never be a billionaire.
