Dear tarot deck creators,

I love you. I know how hard you work to bring your creations to life. My home is filled to the brim with many of your beautiful decks.

I hope you keep creating.

I also hope you don’t rely on AI to make your art. I know it’s all the rage (and allegedly does the work for you), but I prefer to pay artisans instead of robots or some far-out thing created by tech bros who don’t give a shit about tarot’s rich history. It’s bad enough these guys are infiltrating every other part of my world…I don’t want them in my tarot.

Gilded edges make me weak in the knees but they’re not necessary. A box with a magnetic close is a joy. Good card stock? Needed. Don’t skimp. Representation – yes. I want my decks to look like my real world, which is colorful, diverse, and filled with bodies of all sizes and disabilities. While you’re at it, let me know upfront if your deck is inspired by Marseilles or Rider Waite Smith (not sure if AI bots know the difference). I don’t like it when you play coy about that. Even so, I can live with unillustrated pips if I know beforehand. My first deck was a Marseilles, after all.

But please oh please, leave the AI bots out of this. Out of the little white books, the art, the covers, the ideas. I don’t want it. No one does.
