The Hit List - It's a family affair

Genetics is so strange. I think about this way too much. (I also think about space, particularly black holes, too much.) Why do we inherit some traits of our loved ones – or not? For example, I have my father’s deep-set blue eyes, but my three siblings are dark like my mother. They’re stocky like Dad, while I’m fine-boned like Mom. My daughter looks just like her father, while my son favors my side of the family. And the grandbaby is a spitting image of me at three – although in some angles, they resemble grandpa.

The one trait we all share: stubbornness. We can trace that back to Dad. Allegedly, the fruit fell from his own father’s tree.

I also like to find similarities in other realms. My brother, sister, and mother are Gemini risings. My daughter is a Virgo ascendant like her father, whereas my son and I are both Libra risings. I suspect Dad was a Libra rising, too. Not just because we look alike, but our personalities are more similar than I’d like to admit. Both my children are 7 enneagrams, like me. I think we’re all INFJ in the Myers-Briggs, but I might need to recheck that.

And then there are the other things. My children and I share a love of reading and the arts. Politically, we’re peas in the same pod. We are self-employed and work in creative fields. If you trace my family tree, you’ll find writers and abolitionists – so is any of this a surprise? Those roots run deep.
