The Hit List - Goodbye, Monkey

This week, we had to say goodbye to our kitty, Monkey. He was 17 years old. A long life for a feline. Even so, the last two years were challenging due to his failing health. There were many days when we thought it was the end, only for Monkey to rebound.

Nine lives indeed.

But it seems he cashed in the last one. It was heartbreaking to let him go, even though we knew the time was right. Most pet owners understand the agony of making that decision – is it too soon? Are we being hasty? Is he suffering? The second-guessing is the worst.

The house is quiet. It’s the first time we’ve been cat-free ever. There has always been a furry pal ruling over us with iron paws. In time, there will be new cats, and our home will be filled with meows, purrs, and the sound of plants being chewed.

I’m not ready for that yet.

Goodbye, Monkey. You’ll be missed.
