The Hit List - How to Find a New Tarot Reader or Astrologer

What happens when your tarot reader or astrologer retires or moves on? How do you discover your new fave? What if you can’t find someone who reads you as well as your former diviner? These are questions I’ve been getting a lot since I’ve stopped reading for the general public last year.

While the tarot and astrology industry seems to be jam-packed with folks ready to throw down, if you’ve become accustomed to one person’s style, you might be a bit hesitant to try someone new. Like re-entering the dating scene, you have to carefully audition a few folks before you find the right person.

Here’s what I recommend:

1. Most tarot readers and astrologers have a strong social media presence as well as a website these days. Spend time getting to know their work before you invest. Watch their videos, read their posts, check out the bio – you can get a pretty decent idea of how they work and what their personality is like with a bit of investigation.

2. Ask a trusted friend which metaphysical pros they like. Inquire about their experiences. Ask about the reader’s style, tableside manner, and skill. This feedback could be useful. Keep in mind, you’re getting an opinion – sometimes a friend may love a reader but you may not vibe with them.

3. Get a shorter session with the new reader if they offer that. Many tarot readers and astrologers provide 15-minute sessions or email services. This can give you a “taste” and if you like it, you might want to purchase a longer session.

In my opinion, this little bit of research is the best way to find your new mystical practitioner.

From time to time, I have former clients reach out to me requesting a referral. I am no longer offering this because I’ve had too many folks come back to me disappointed because the reader “didn’t read like me” or some other complaint. That’s not fair to me or to the other reader, who might be hurt to know someone is “reporting” on their skill or professionalism to a peer. Plus, it’s none of my business.

Readers are not cookie-cutter versions of each other. Each one has their own unique style – and it’s up to the client to do their due diligence. It’s also wise to keep an open mind. If you’re looking for the “next Theresa,” you won’t find that. Instead, you’ll find many other wonderfully talented pros with their own methods and personalities. In fact, you might actually find quite a few that you love.
