You may not know who you’re talking to so let me clue you in.
I’m not the tarot scholar nor the historian. I’m not the revered elder nor the one who just walked in.
I’m deep in the tarot trenches, doing the hard, dirty work. I’m serving the ones who need a safe place to bare their souls and release their troubles. I pass no judgment on their mistakes (hell, I made plenty myself).
I’m doing the entertaining, the healing, the helping, the guiding, the teaching and the serving.
I’m doing it quietly, behind the scenes with little attention to what the others are doing.
I’m on my own grind.
Passive income? There is some but my main cheddar comes from getting down with my people. I interact. I’m there for them. They get me and only me – no assistant, no autoresponder. This ain’t passive stuff, baby. I roll deep, hard and real.
I’m the one who is pissing off the ones who think I have cojones for daring to charge for my time. Time is the only finite thing I have, therefore it’s valuable. Do you know what would happen if I decided to stop reading professionally and got a “real job”? I’d have no time to serve anyone – and that ain’t gonna wash because I have people who need me and mouths to feed. Giving it away for free is not an option.
I couldn’t do another line of work anyways. I’m not cut out for car washes or fast food. Leave that to the other pollos. I’ve got cards to read. (And if you have not guessed it by now, I read because it’s a passion. It drives me. It makes me feel alive.)
I’m showing the ropes to those who want to build mystical empires. The serious ones who are willing to actually do the work. I’m always looking for my Jesse. (He’s out there, somewhere, as ambitious as I am and willing to do what it takes to succeed.)
No, Skylar, I’m not the academic nor the weekend dabbler. No.
I am the one who reads cards!
Other stuff:
I’m considering closing the comment section on my blog. I love what the Rock and Roll Bride had to say about comments and this spurred me to once again, consider. But I’m still waffling.
Have you watched Bar Rescue? It’s another one of those reality shows where an expert (in this case, bar and restaurant whiz Jon Taffer) comes in, assesses the problems and renovates the hell out of the business and the owners. Jon is simply brilliant at what he does and I’m digging the heck out of his new book: Raise the Bar: An Action-Based Method for Maximum Customer Reactions It’s all about client expectations and reactions. Any business owner would benefit from reading this one.
After years of searching, I finally found some plush chairs suitable for my office. Where did I get ‘em? Pier One Imports! I’m now a convert to that store after ignoring it for years. (Thanks to my daughter for the suggestion.)
I’m intrigued with the Lean In circles and would love to form one in my hood (do I have the time? Probably not but I can fantasize!).
Courtney Stodden’s marriage is over. Um…yeah. Nothing to see there, time to move on.
I’m really loving the Ex Wives of Rock. Athena (Tommy Lee’s sister!) is just plain adorable. You gotta love a woman who, as she is about to go under the knife, says through her anesthetic haze: “I want to meet that angry cat. I want to meet that bastard.”
I’ve been following the heartbreaking story of the White House Boys in Florida for a while now. If you are unfamiliar with the story, here is a link to the official page. It’s horrible to think that so many young men were beaten, abused and murdered in that reform school. I’m glad the truth is finally coming out.
Prince George is so damn cute, I can barely stand it!
On my must-see list: Dallas Buyer’s Club. Man, I used to think Matthew McConahey was a one trick pretty boy pony. I am a complete fan girl now.
A double finger snake ring? YES!!!!! I’m born in the year of the snake so I am a sucker for snake jewelry.
What I’m Grateful For:
An extra hour to sleep in
My husband removed some clutter that was driving me nuts
Warm kitties on my lap
New chairs in my office
Busy days, quiet nights
Excellent health
Fresh raspberries
