The Hit List - I spy with my tarot eye

One of the things that I love the most about tarot is the depiction of major spiritual lessons but also the day-to-day life in each card. Every one of the 78 cards holds an image that we can relate to our daily comings and goings.

If you’ve been playing around with tarot as long as I have (almost forty years in a matter of two years…gulp), you start to see EVERYTHING as a tarot card.

:: A night spent with the family is the Ten of Pentacles.
:: A cat curled up on your lap is the Nine of Cups.
:: A crappy day outside (we’ve had plenty of those) becomes the Five of Pentacles.
:: A favorite bank teller might be the Queen of Wands (yes, I have favorites).

Like me, you might be able to look at your surroundings right now and find a tarot card. Go ahead. Take a few minutes to gaze around you. What’s in your line of vision? What do you see? What tarot card might represent that image/thing/object/person?

Here are a few things I’ve looked at recently and the tarot cards that I feel correlate with them:

By the way, this little photography practice is something that I do often. I love taking pictures (my goal is to get more serious with photography when things slow down around here). I’m especially keen to click anything that reminds me of tarot.

Which everything does.

Wanna explore this with me? I’m co-hosting a workshop in Los Angeles with my friend, photographer Danielle Cohen in two weeks. It’s called Through a Tarot Lens. We have seats still available, waiting for you. We hosted this event last year and our participants had a fantastic time so we’re doing it again. But we’re adding a twist: we will be focusing on shadows. Both the shadow play in photos – and exploring our own personal shadows, those dark spots within ourselves that we usually try to hide or ignore. When we acknowledge the shadow, we heal.

Tarot + photography + healing = a magical day.

Here are some pics from last year’s event (these were taken by Danielle):
