Did you ever hear the story about the turtle and the scorpion?  A scorpion approaches a turtle who was getting ready to cross the river.  The scorpion asks the turtle if he’d be willing to give him a ride on his back.  The turtle refuses and says “you’ll sting me”.  The scorpion promises he won’t, so the trusting turtle agrees and allows the scorpion to climb on his back.  After they make their way to the other side, the scorpion stings the turtle. As the turtle lies dying, he asks the scorpion “Why did you do that?” and the scorpion says “It’s in my nature. I can’t help it.”

I love that story and it illustrates a point: there are some things that are just part of who we are and sometimes it is hard to control those tendencies.

When I was an angsty teen, I really wanted to understand myself which is why I was so drawn to astrology.  Once I started digging into the planets, it gave me some insight into how I operated and more importantly, I got clued in on how to actually work with that energy.

Let me give an example: I’m a Gemini through and through and for those who have to live with me, they totally get it.  But for those on the outside, I can appear to be a walking dichotomy.  Gemini is the sign of the Twins, so we are known for having multiple interests and many personalities.

This is why people are sometimes confused as to what I’m about.  I am quoting Nietzsche on one hand and then getting all thug with some Rick Ross on the other.  I’m super serious when it comes to my work but then my off time is cluttered up with trashy reality shows.  I’m happy go lucky (you will rarely, if ever, find me in a bad mood) but my favorite movie is Happiness….which is so not happy (I like dark movies – other favorite is Requiem For A Dream).  I’m all over the place but yet I’m extremely rooted and grounded.

I like to say that Geminis have personality ADHD.  We are constantly shifting and adapting and changing and evolving.  We can appear scattered on the surface but underneath, there is a method to our madness and all of our quirks make perfect sense to us!  Living with one of us is like living with four people (and two Geminis in one household – chaos manifest!). It takes a very tolerant and loving family to deal with that madness.

Luckily, I have the best and they are quite comfortable with my whirly silly cray cray. Ironically, my husband and children are rather somber folk.  I like to think that they help me to stay put and I allow them to lighten up.

When you look at a person’s Sun sign, you can get a lot of info  – but get a full on astrology chart and you’ll have a deep road map to understanding the nuances that shape the persona.

If you have ever wanted to know what makes you or your loved ones tick, you may want to get a chart cast.

Other stuff:

Once upon a time, a male astrologer read my chart.  He remarked that my chart was more Donna Reed than he expected.  It’s that Venus in Cancer, the highest planet in my chart.  It basically means that underneath the Gemini flake, I’m a housewife in drag.  Which explains why I’m soooo into this new entertaining book by Susan Spungen: What’s a Hostess to Do? (What’s a… to Do?)

My Saturn in Pisces gives me an ability to be empathic towards any sort of suffering.  This post  on Distressing Images of Women Punished for Dangerous Liaisons haunted me for days.

My Libra rising is attracted to all things pretty and functional.  LIke this: Steve Madden Bizzy Shoulder Bag,Red,One Size

I’ve got three planets in Virgo which explains my workaholic nature.  This post on professional integrity over at The Middle Finger Project – yeah….love that.

I’ve also got three planets in Gemini.  All that mutable energy makes me easily distracted by silly stuff like this fox song.  And these cats in tiny hats.

All those Mercury ruled planets (count ‘em – there are six!) gives me an unquenchable thirst for learning and communicating.  I’m digging Chineasy – the easy way to learn Chinese!

My chart is filled with lot’s o’ challenging aspects which creates subtle complexities that has me always seeking.  It’s no wonder I’m drawn to mystical conversations like the ones happening over at The Shero’s School for Revolutionaries.

What I’m grateful for this week:

I discovered a brand new cupcake shop!

Breaking Bad <-SO good

Being understood by the right people

Being misunderstood by the wrong people

New keyboards after tea disasters

Self acceptance

Soundtrack for 9/7/13: Split Personality by UTFO (this is like the PERFECT song for Geminis!  Ha!)

So what’s your nature?  What do the planets say about your predilections and personality quirks?  I’d love to hear how you feel your chart influences your tastes and habits.  Post away in the comment section below!

Blessings!
