The Hit List - What I keep in my bag

My mother enrolled me in Brownies. I’m not sure why she did. I never showed interest in the outdoors, and I was a lone wolf. Selling cookies? I’d rather hide in a pillow fort with a stack of books. Perhaps on some level, she thought this was the right thing to do. Or maybe she assumed I’d make friends. Obviously, she didn’t think this through.

I hated it. The activities were not my cup of tea (sitting around a fire – nope), and the other girls were mean. On a hike in the woods, we were supposed to team up and hold hands, but no one wanted to be my hiking buddy. I dropped out a few weeks after that incident.

However, one thing I took from my brief stint in the Girl Scouts was to always be prepared. Back then, that meant keeping a bag of clothes by the window in case the house caught fire and hiding a dollar in my shoe if there was an emergency. (The house never burned down, and I don’t remember any emergencies other than a chocolate shortage.)

Nowadays, my bag is a nylon backpack with all the things I might need at any given moment. Here’s what I keep with me at all times:

Allergy pills.
Motrin.
A Pepto Bismol chewable.
Wet wipes.
Dental mints.
A pen.
A small notebook.
A tiny tarot deck.
Talismans for luck.
Wallet.
Red Lipstick.
Floss.
Powder.
Small mirror.
Tweezer.
Nail clippers.
Cell phone.
A good book. (My iPad if I’m traveling.)
Tissues.
List of enemies.

What about you? Do you have things you keep with you at all times? What’s your bag – and what’s in it? More importantly: what SHOULD I have in mine?

xo

Theresa

PS, I don’t really keep a list of enemies. LOL
