The Hit List - My new norm

Lots has been changing around here. At the risk of TMI, it’s the big ole change o’ life thing. My husband thinks these conversations don’t need to be public but I disagree. By sharing my own stories, I hope to help other women who are also moving into this mid-life stuff.

For months, I could not get a decent night’s sleep. I tossed and turned. Insomnia became the regular thing. Getting up in the morning seemed nigh impossible because I was exhausted down to the marrow. Recently, it abated. I’ve just started to enjoy a normal sleep cycle again.

My body, once naturally slim, suddenly packed on extra weight. I’m muscular from years of yoga so I hide it well but there was no denying it when I took a big, brave step on the scale. All my bad habits and sedentary tarot-writer lifestyle caught up to me at last! Since that time, I’ve lost a total of ten pounds. I have about five to reach my low goal and about fifteen to reach my ultimate happy-what-I-used-to-weigh-before-menopause-weight. It’s coming off slowly but it’s coming off, which is all that matters.

The other big change: my libido is back. And it’s raging. It waned for a bit, probably due to lack of sleep or hormonal madness. But no more. I’ve always been a lusty lady and I am glad that part of my life returned. (Sorry husband, for sharing this. Not sorry for still finding you hot.)

All of the change has meant that I have had to adjust…then adjust again. Although things may be settling into a new norm, chances are there will be more changes happening as soon as I’ve gotten accustomed to the latest.

Because that’s the thing: life is always moving forward, sometimes in surprising ways. Change is inevitable. How we adjust to it is what matters. For now, I’m feeling groovy with my new norm. We’ll see what tune I’m singing when the next big thing comes.
