Ever have that moment where you sit down at your computer, tea or coffee nearby, ready to tap tap tap on that keyboard…only to realize you have nothing to say?

Maybe not much is going on.  Or maybe…too much is going on.

So you sit and wait for the muse to arrive. But she never shows up (in case you needed to know, my muse is male and looks just like Jared Leto before he cut his hair).

What do you do?  Give up?  Go outside for a walk? Have a drink and sink into old episodes of True Detective?

No.

You sit at that computer anyways.

And maybe you’ll write nonsense.

Maybe your cat will interfere and you’ll produce a muddy piece of work riddled with typos (typical over here).

Or you might just be filled with doubt: “What a piece of crap this is and who am I anyways to write?”

Then, maybe something will click and the muse will begin to shower you with witty observations and words that flow off the page faster than you can even keep up.

But none of it matters.

What matters is that you sat your ass down and did the job.  Whether you felt like it.  Whether inspiration strikes or not.  Whether the sun was beaming through your windows like streams of honey liquid gold,  beckoning you to come out and play.

You committed to write even if your muse is a flaky, drunken bitch that doesn’t give a crap about deadlines (or, if your muse is like mine, he wakes me up in the middle of the night with good ideas and now I have to choose between sleep or getting that jazz down on paper before my slumber devours the ideas and they are lost forever).

So write.

Write because you must.

Even if you think you have nothing to say that day.

nothing to say
