hit list over easy hard work

I love shopping online.  In fact, I do most of my purchasing from the world-wide-web because it’s convenient.

I like ease.  I seek it as much as possible.

Yet I found myself in a strange conundrum when a recent project fell into my lap and flowed so well that it was effortless: l I wondered if I was doing a good job.

Because it didn’t feel like hard work.

When any of my projects come together seamlessly, I secretly worry that I’ve done a half-assed effort. I’ll go back and look at my work again and again, scrutinizing every minute detail to see if I’ve somehow overlooked something. I might even fine tune one tiny thing just to add more minutes to the task because lots of time makes it better, right?

I drive myself NUTS.

Why do I assume that my work needs to be “hard” in order for it to be “good”?

I might be because I grew up with the mantra: you have to work hard.  You have to “earn it” through blood, sweat ‘n tears. So when something sails along smoothly,  it’s hard for me to believe that it’s real or valid or that I deserve any praise or goodies that come from my good efforts.

This thinking needs to go.

Because not everything has to be a long, hard slog.

For example, Gnarls Barkley recorded their phenomenal song “Crazy” in one take.  ONE TAKE.  Perfection + ease.  Yes, it can happen.  It does happen again and again.

So although I’m not looking for the easy A, I’m done with assuming that I have to break my back for things to be “worthy”.  You can produce amazing results without killing yourself in the process and when you’re good, you’re good.

And that’s not crazy at all.
