The Hit List - The urge to purge

I’m currently in the middle of home renovations. Namely, we’re redoing three floors: kitchen, living room, and my office. It’s long overdue. We waited until we were cat-free to begin the process because our cats happened to be the obnoxious types that would never put up with this much chaos.

So far, the kitchen is complete. The living room is on hold while we wait for the flooring to come through. My office will be back together by the end of the week, fingers crossed.

Because we needed to rip up the carpet to prep for sanding hardwoods, that meant taking all of my books and decks out of the shelves and bins so we could easily move the furniture. My daughter dropped by to give me a hand. As we pulled the decks out the drawers, we both become overwhelmed. My floor was engulfed with tarot decks.

I had gotten rid of a bunch not that long ago, but slowly the hoard crept right back up. My daughter said “this is too much – you can get rid of a third of these decks.” Which is what I’m in the process of doing. Boxes are filled to the brim, ready to be taken by a good samaritan or deposited in free little libraries around the hood. I’m sad to part with some of these beauties but I don’t have the room.

I don’t want to be a hoarder, found dead, buried under a pile of decks and books (the books stay…I’m really organized as far as they are concerned – plus most of these are reference, which I use). This renovation is giving me the perfect excuse to skip that scenario.

So the urge to purge will be satisfied this weekend. On Monday, I cannot wait to step into my pristine and less clutter-y room. Until then, you’ll find me hidden behind the mountain of tarot decks.
