The Hit List - When you're doubting your life path, read this.

Do you ever wonder if you’re on your life path? Do you look around at what everyone else is doing and say to yourself “I’m not doing anything special here…”

Other people are doing so many great, profound things while your life is kinda “meh.”

On occasion, I encounter clients who feel this way. They make assumptions about what a life path or calling is. They think that they are somehow not fulfilling a purpose if they aren’t out in the world, doing something noble or charitable…or “special.”

If you’re one of those people, I want to assure you: you’re doing just fine.

Life paths are not always straight and narrow nor well lit. They can twist and turn and have detours, ridges and valleys. At times, you may think you’ve fallen off your path – that’s still being “on the path” because sometimes a fall may be necessary. Doubting your life path is also part of the equation. That’s because questioning brings answers. In some cases, your path may not be about you – your purpose might be to serve as a catalyst for someone else’s growth.

Paths can be muddy and full of weeds but still we must trudge on, confident that where we are right now, at this moment in time, is where we need to be.

Too many of us get caught up in the idea of a life path being some sort of vocation, talent, or perhaps something we need to be doing “in the world.” For some people it may be. But for others, the life path may not be what you do – it may simply be what you are.

Keep going, my friends. The path under your feet always leads to where you are meant to go. Trust that.

When my son was an infant, he bopped perfectly in time to any music that I would play. So it wasn’t a surprise when he picked up the drums at age twelve. Today, he’s an accomplished jazz musician and teacher.
