The Hit List - Your permission slip

Remember when you needed a permission slip in grade school? Your parent signed a piece of paper saying you could participate (or not) in some activity. My weary parents barely paid attention to what they were signing off on, but I know other kids had parents who objected for reasons that ranged from safety concerns to religious beliefs.

Even though it’s been decades since I’ve required a permission slip, I’ve had a subconscious need for one. Mainly around setting boundaries. Which is kind of weird when you think about it. I’m not the only one.

When I used to read tarot for the public, many clients seemed to treat the reading as their permission slip to finally do the thing they wanted to do. A positive card was the nudge to quit a terrible but secure job, ask for someone’s number, or tell that toxic ex to go fly a kite.

Why do we do this even as grown adults? We don’t need someone else to give the green light.

So today, consider this post your official permission slip to live your life as you see fit. Do the thing that lights you up. Cross those items off the bucket list. Write the book, send the email, apply for the job, get married, ditch your partner, dye your hair purple, buy the ticket, and sing at the top of your lungs for no reason (the louder the better).

You don’t need permission from this post. Ultimately, you’re the only one who has the power to give you permission.
