I started my career as a tarot professional when I was quite young.  At that time, there were no other readers in my area from the same age group.  Most of the established readers were middle aged or nearing retirement.  I didn’t think much of it but now that I am “mature” (for lack of a better word), I started to look around at the professional reader demographic.  And guess what?  Not much has changed.  Most of the readers I know are lumped into the same age bracket as me – or are much older.  Some of these people didn’t even start going pro until they were well into middle age.

I started to wonder why the tarot profession wasn’t attracting more younger people.  After all, this career has incredible possibilities to touch lives and make a respectable living.  Plus it’s cool as hell!

In the spirit of trying to reach out to the younger community, I offered a contest a few months ago.  And the response?  Very little interest.  That shocked me.  Was there really no one with the “calling” to do this?  Is the tarot industry going to shrink as the current population inches towards retirement age?  I decided it was time to seek out the younger readers that are trying to work in this industry and get some answers.

I went on a mission to interview a few readers that I felt had genuine talent, presence and promise.  It was interesting to get their perspective and I found myself walking away with a better understanding of why there seems to be little interest in this field amongst the younger ilk – and I was also reminded of some of my own attitudes and issues when I was that age.

I will be bringing you each of their stories over the next 4 days.

Blessings!

Theresa
