At the beginning of each year, many people make New Year’s resolutions. It’s usually something to do around health such as committing to a new fitness regime.  Yep, I’m one of those people too.

In fact, I have a goal that involves finally conquering those ten pounds that I’ve been meaning to get to for oh…a few years now.  (I set it and forget it. Ha ha!)

My healthy living goals usually only last so long – they fall by the wayside once a cupcake or glass of wine finds its way under my nose. Which somehow…seems to magically happen a lot.  But my business resolutions – those tend to stick.

Yes indeedy – I set a business resolution every single year.

One year, it was to finally eliminate tarot parties (best decision EVER). Another year, get my record keeping habits tighter.  Last year, it was all about getting my book launched. Which meant organizing my business to center around that. I’m happy to say that last year’s biz resolution was a slam dunk!

Setting one big business goal for the year works.

This year, my mission is to create more time for writing. I’ve got another book in me that wants to come out. But I’m also booked to the gills with client work and more traveling to support The Tarot Coloring Book.

So how am I going to do that?

After taking time to ponder what’s best for me and my goal, I realized that I need to scale back on my email readings. I’ve already been testing that out for a few months and it’s been working well for me.

Now it’s time to commit all the way.

Which means continuing to offer this service (I love doing them and my clients dig ‘em too) but limiting how many I take on every week. And, to take this one step further, I’m taking off one week a month from email readings just to create more space to create.

That’s my resolution.

What about you?  What resolution might you set for your business? Not sure?

Here’s how to set one that will work for you:

Take some time to reflect on your last business year.

Ask yourself these questions: What were the things that worked well for you? What didn’t?  Where are you feeling happy? Where are you feeling burnt out or less-than-thrilled?  Where do you feel competent? And where are you slacking?

Then, focus on what your business – and you – might need.  From there, set an intention.  Write this down on in a journal or, better yet, on a sticky note and put it somewhere where you can see it every day.

Commit to taking that action until it becomes a healthy habit.

Because that’s the thing: a fit business needs regular resolutions and the discipline to carry them out.  It’s not too late to set one today. (Psst…if you see me hanging out with a cupcake, for the love of all things holy, please stop me!)

Blessings,

Theresa
