I’m taking a “medicine day” today.  In fact, I’m on day three.

What’s a medicine day, you ask?  It’s a day spent resting after a major event or travel.  Kinda like a reboot.

I learned about medicine days from my friend Lisa Briggs, who suggested I take one after leading a sold out retreat a few years back.  The idea of taking a day off to do nothing after an event sounded delightful at the time – but I had work scheduled.

For you see, I am an admitted workaholic.  It’s easy for me to work long hours, often days at a stretch with zero play time.  I’m wired this way but it’s not healthy.

I went right back into heavy work mode after that weekend and…you guessed it…I crashed and burned.  Not cool.

Since that time, I’ve learned the value of medicine days, especially when there is a major work event or any sort of travel.  I now take an extra day off to get myself in order.  And, when I’m doing an important event, like my recent Tarot By The Mouthful Dinner (so fab!), I schedule in more days to chill.  For this particular gathering, I took the day off the day of the event – and then the next two days for good measure.  (I even got a nap in there!)

And how am I feeling?

Rested.

Replenished.

Ready to slay.

The next time you’ve got something big planned for your work world, be sure to follow Lisa’s wise advice: schedule in a day to rest up afterwards.  You and your work will be better off for it.

Blessings,

Theresa
