I’ve been in a mass decluttering mode recently. Renovating your house will often spur on purges. It’s been great to pare everything down. That includes my massive tarot deck collection.
It was easy to part with some of them. I didn’t like the art enough to keep ‘em around. Decks from frenemies? Buh-bye! I don’t need to keep that negative energy around. However, some were harder for me to toss due to sentimental reasons. And then there was that one deck I hung on to…even though it had bad vibes.
Why couldn’t I let this one go?
The truth is: guilt. It was given to me by someone I care about, so there was all sorts of emotional attachment. I never want to be an ingrate! Yet the deck gave me the ick every time I saw it in the drawer. I won’t go into the reasons why, except to say some of the images dredged up a lot of bad feelings. I wanted to like the deck because the art was nice.
But I couldn’t. The deck made me gag (not kidding).
I think I only used it once or twice, mainly out of a bizarre sense of obligation, but it made me so angry I slammed it back into the drawer. Finally, I decided it was time to get this bad vibe tarot deck out of my orbit. My husband suggested I burn the images that pissed me off. Another person said to torch the whole damn deck. I’ll let you guess which option I chose.
Now, when I open my drawers, I only see decks I enjoy. The no-good, bad vibe tarot deck is gone, daddy, gone, never to darken my tarot table again.
Because sometimes, no matter how guilty you feel about a gift, it’s not a gift if it makes you feel like shit. Flush it and be done with it. The end.
