The Hit List - Hating summer, but loving these local things

Every summer, I bitch constantly about the heat and humidity. It’s what I do. This year has been rough thanks to the Canadian wildfires, which have made the air too dangerous to breathe. While I don’t mind sitting in air-conditioned splendor, I do resent it being not by choice!

Although I’m a summer hater, there are some local things lately that I’m loving (when I dare venture out of my bubble).

Jay by the Bay. All this typing got my shoulders jacked up. Recently, went back to Jay and remembered why. He’s amazingly talented and knows how to hit my trouble spots just right. Plus, his prices are righteous.

Milwaukee Public Market. After my massage, I head to this joint for three missions: raw oysters at the St. Paul Fish Market, chocolate mousse cake at the C Adams bakery, and dark chocolate fairy food from Freese’s Chocolate Shoppe. It’s indoors, which means: no heat stroke!

Kind Oasis. Weed isn’t legal in Wisconsin, but the peanut butter cups with Delta 9 are the perfect substitute. I also love the mushroom blends. Take one of these, and who gives a rip about the heat? Wheeeee!

Uptown Pharmacy. When I need the legal kind of drugs, this is the place to go. We switched to this pharmacy a while back, and it’s been one of the best decisions ever! The pharmacists are nice and helpful, you get rock star treatment, and the selection of over-the-counter stuff is just right.

Matilda Bakehouse. What can I say? I love sweets! This bakery has uh-may-zing pastries and whatnot. I’m a fan of the chocoholic cake. When they don’t have it in stock, I get grumpy!

With a bit of chocolate, a great massage, a bellyful of oysters, excellent services, and mushroom blends, I can get through this summer bummer just fine. (Psst…I also stalk the Calendarr site for the autumn countdown, which puts me in a better mood – only 44 days to go!)
