love him

There are many reasons why I adore my husband.  A thick head of hair down to his waist and piercing blue eyes are a winning combo.

But there are other reasons why I’m still gaga over him after almost twenty-five years together.

For one, the honesty.  And this:

“Please buy me a coat.”

A young man, obviously strung out on something, was standing outside the Goodwill, begging passerbys to go in and get him a coat.  Night was falling and in San Francisco those nights get damn cold, even in summer.  This poor chap was wearing a thin t-shirt, raggedy jeans and baseball cap.  It wouldn’t be long before he’d be in a bad spot.

We walked past him and then my husband stopped, spun on his heel, looked at me and said “I am going to buy him a coat.”

And that is exactly what he did.

We went inside Goodwill and although there were no winter coats available, he managed to find a super-thick hooded sweatshirt.  Seven bucks later and we’re out the door and he’s handing it to a very grateful guy.

THIS.

He does stuff like this all the time.

Without a second thought and zero need for thanks or approval.

This generosity makes my heart melt.

He’s a good man.

The end.
