younger

I love reaching out to younger tarot pros.  Why?

It’s because I remember what it’s like to stand in their shoes.  Oh, the nerves!

The biggest anxiety when I started:  I didn’t know jack about business – and I had zero support.

No teacher.

No elder to take me by the hand.

No coach.

There was also no internet so there was no way of finding help or other pros with whom I could talk shop.  In other words, it was tough luck, you’re on your own, sistah.

My career education was through the tarot business school of hard knocks.

Luckily, I was a scrappy, determined wiseass – and ambitious to the core (still am).

So here I am….almost 25 years later and in a really good space.  I’ve earned it.

But as I get older, I think a lot about younger tarot readers.  I’m always trying to connect with them and offer support.  I’d like to see other elders do the same.

Face it, we’re not getting  any younger.  We need to help them grow as professional readers so that they can carry the torch after we have passed on.

What about you (not just tarot people but anyone over 40)?  Do you have knowledge to share from your work?  We all do.  Everyone of us has a gift of wisdom to pass on.  Let’s do our part and give that knowledge to our younger tribe.  Inspire, teach, share, help, and reach the hell out!

Mentor a young person: leave a legacy in your wake.

“The secret message communicated to most young people today by the society around them is that they are not needed, that the society will run itself quite nicely until they – at some distant point in the future – will take over the reigns. Yet the fact is that the society is not running itself nicely… because the rest of us need all the energy, brains, imagination and talent that young people can bring to bear down on our difficulties. For society to attempt to solve its desperate problems without the full participation of even very young people is imbecile.” ~ Alvin Toffler

“A youth is to be regarded with respect. How do we know that his future will not be equal to our present?”  ~ Confucius

In that spirit, I’m creating an opportunity for one lucky young tarot reader who is working as a pro or ready to start.

I’m on the hunt again for another tarot apprentice who is ready for some tough lovin’ tarot business mentoring from yours truly.

Requirements:

  • Must be between the ages 18 – 35
  • Must be reading tarot at least 5 years
  • Must be fluent in tarot (this mentorship offers no training in tarot – it is strictly to help you get your tarot business in order)
  • Must be SUPER ambitious – I want someone who is HUNGRY
  • Ready to invest time, resources and energy

This is not for you if:

  • You don’t fall in the age requirements
  • You are lazy or make excuses
  • You have no interest in working in this field
  • You whine and hate follow through
  • You don’t like investing in yourself or your business

What you get:

A full year of business mentoring with me.  Once a month, for one hour, we meet and work on your biz.  You get my eyes on your world and my years of experience giving you a mega leg up.

How:

Shoot me an email and you’ll get the application:  tarotlady@wi.rr.com

Once I approve your application, you will then mail me monthly reports on your business (I want to witness your ambition for a few months to determine how serious you are).  If you forget a month, you’re out.  If you are a slacker, it’s doubtful you’ll be picked so don’t even bother. This will be completely private so no worries – it’s just between you and me.

On June 11th, I will pick a winner and that guy or gal will be under my wing for a full  rockin’ year.

A few years ago, I ran a Tarot Apprentice contest and I ended up with a fabulous apprentice, Hilary Parry, who was recently featured in Maxim magazine.  That can be you.

Are you ready?

The window for the application closes on 2/5/14 (right before Mercury goes retrograde).

The contest will run behind the scenes until 6/11/14, when the winner will be announced on my blog.

Special memo to the people who are unhappy that this contest is restricted to young tarot readers: rather than throwing shade, put your energy into helping the younger people in your world.  Make a difference, not a complaint.

My cat, TaoZen is not very good at mentoring.  He prefers to sleep, thank you very much.

Other stuff:

Yesterday, I launched my Kindness Hustle, a 30 day ecourse of easy and sweet kindness prompts delivered right to your inbox.  Why this?  It’s because I’m sick of haterade and wanted to make some lemonade instead.  Psssttt….it’s donation only – and all donations go directly to Peace As A LIFEstyle – a fabulous program that teaches youth about non-violence and peace!  Let’s start an epidemic of loving kindness!

My dear friend, Sherold Barr, just released a wonderful digital manifesto, 10 Things I Wish I Had Known Before 30.  This should be required reading at any age.  Bravo!  Grab your copy before it’s no longer free.

When I was a kid, I was OBSESSED with those old Rankin Bass shows like The Year Without A Santa Claus (I am still rather fanatical – I have a big collection).  Sadly, one of the legends behind those dear films, Arthur Rankin Jr, has passed away.  RIP Mr. Rankin.  Thank you for all your wonderful work!

These Russian wedding photos are either bizarre or genius.  WTH?

Tara Gentile always has the best business stuff.  She has a free three day workshop that all creative entrepreneurs will not want to miss: creativeLIVE.  Learn how to reach your revenue goals with ease, not anxiety.

Here’s a creepy cautionary tale over at xoJane: I was friends with an internet troll.  I always wondered if they were jerks in real life.  Guess they are.

Speaking of trolls, this woman made art from the cruel comments online haters left on her tumblr page.  (See why I made the Kindness Hustle?  Knowing that some complete stranger went out of their way to say hateful things to her makes me sad.)

In case you want to know, here’s an important quiz: Which member of One Direction should you marry? I got Harry Styles.  Hope he likes cranky old tarot readers.

We’ve been having a relentless winter here.  In fact, there is a mini blizzard outside my window now.  But we’re tough up here.  Atlanta….not so much.  I really feel for those folks down there – how horrible!

Didja ever work with someone who was a total a-hole?  Abundant Yogi has a GREAT post about how to handle that conundrum.

Need to work on your blogging skills?  Susannah Conway is offering up a delicious course just for you.

I dig Leah Shapiro.  Like, a lot.  She’s got a super fly new thang for awesome females who are looking to make their dreams and goals come true.  Get into her Creative Vortex if that sounds like you.

Memo to self: don’t get Dengue Fever.   Ever.

Welcome to the Chinese New Year –  Year of the Horse!  Apparently, I’m going to have: a year of competition and rivalry, but subtle tactics will help you come out on top.  Interesting.

What I’m Grateful For:

My children (they teach me so much)

A good (and addictive) ramen place in my hood

Masssage therapists that come to my house

New journals

A car that starts, even in 40 below windchills

Kind people that show up in my world every day

I got the cat off my table right before he coughed up a hairball

Soundtrack for 2/1/14:  Peter Bjorn and John:  Young Folks – I love the whistling on this song (Theresa fact: I cannot whistle.)

Peace out!

Theresa
